Ramadan Maubarak.
This week we talked about the Holy month of Ramadan, which is observed and celebrated by 1.9 billion Muslims around the world.
Mrs Mahmoud introduced us to the Ramadan calendar and talked to us about how we get rewarded with a treat for the good deeds we carry out on a daily basis.
We have begun rewarding one of the children each day for their kindness towards their friends. And during the thirty days of Ramadan each child will be rewarded with a treat for demonstrating kindness and respecting the Willington community and values.
The children loved making their Ramadan’s lanterns after watching a lovely Ramadan clip on the interactive board of the children holding up their lit lanterns,(Fawanis Ramadan) as they are called in Arabic! The children used different media and materials to create some beautiful lanterns to go on the Ramadan display.
The children also enjoyed an outdoor cooking session using the finest herbs and ingredients from all around the world to make a mouth watering Iftar meal to break their fast!!
They also got to smell some wonderful spices from the Middle East for the first time.
This week the children are learning about another very interesting life cycle, the ‘Frog’ life cycle. We have learnt and watched some fascinating facts about these tiny wonders. The children have observed the life cycle from frog spawn, tadpole, froglet and frog.
We had immense fun recreating our own frog pond using Googly eyes as frogspawn. And filling it with model tadpoles, frogs and lily pads. This water play aided the children’s understanding of the sequencing of every stage of the frog life cycle.
Mrs Boyd and the children thought it was fun to make a frog mask. Each child decided if they wanted green pens or tissue paper to decorate these. We all had fun role playing as a family of frogs hopping around,
Mrs Mahmoud and the frogs had a great fun afternoon jumping and playing a Frog Pond game enjoying the beautiful weather outside!
