Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
In Art, the highlight of the week was definitely the Year 5 and 6 Sketchbook Showcase evening on Wednesday. It was a real joy to watch the children showing parents and each other some of their wonderful work. Observing the creativity in the room was a real joy.
Year 4 have started to create set design for their upcoming play "Pantastic" working as creative teams to paint set backdrops. We discussed the importance of collaboration, which the children took to successfully, working together to allocate different areas to each other. I'm excited to see how these designs turn out!
Year 5 have begun to design their embroidery work, learning about embroidery hoops, stitch types, needles and fabrics. I have been very impressed with their practise stitches, and their determination when threading a needle.
Year 6 have completed their "This is me" project, resulting in a set of incredible paintings of eyes, using acrylic paint and the grid method. We have just begun a new project names "Footsteps Forwards," where the children will be drawing shoes and trainers, learning a range of new drawing and creatinf techniques.
Year 3 have amazed me with their drawings of dragon eyes. These are designs for our upcoming work in clay, but the children have been developing incredible shading techniques, which make their artwork look more three dimensional.
It has been very exciting that Year 2 have begun printmaking, learning to carve a polystyrene tile, and then use ink to print their tile multiple times. It can be so easy to break these polystyrene tiles, but everyone handled their work with extreme care and created some brilliant prints.
Reception and Year 1 have both been developing their skills with oil pastels this week. Reception through adding colour to an orange slice and Year 1 creating a hairy monster.
Please enjoy looking through some of their artwork below.
Warm regards,
