Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Even a week later I'm still feeling the buzz from last Friday's festivities. I have received some amazing feedback from the event and as a department we are so grateful for all of the positive comments.
The Pre Prep competition was awesome, and so cute to watch. Being able to see our budding sportsmen and women in action was really exciting as it makes us really look forward to the future. This was Nursery's first and Year 2s last appearance, and I for one cannot wait to see Year 2 in the Prep event next year. There are some special talents in that group who will definitely bring some fresh energy across the field.
I want to say a massive thank you to all of the parents who came to watch both events. Your support played a huge part in the pupil's enjoyment so thank you for making it such a special afternoon. I said in the staff meeting during the week that sports days are a team effort, and all of the staff at Willington worked hard all day to ensure pupils were all where they needed to be, especially the Nursery and Pre Prep staff who have basically have to control 30 wind up toys who kept drifting in the wrong direction.
The Prep competition kicked off with the 400m and 800m races, and the pace didn't relent until the 100m finals at 16:00! Watching our boys and girls throw, jump, sprint and work as a team in the tug of war was really a sight to behold, and I was so proud of them all. Just like the Olympics, we build up to the 100m finals, but it was probably the tug of war competition that was the most hotly contested, with Oates coming away with a fine victory! Overall, Tenzing took the sports day title and those points could well be the difference in the overall House Point competition at the end of term, but as I mentioned earlier, everyone from the pupils, parents to the staff made the day special and I'm very grateful to everyone for that. Next year, we will not be changing any details in regards to timings and the set up of the day, but I will look to progress some of the events to ensure that as pupils move through the school they get to try out something new and exciting.
Keeping with athletics based news, I have just booked out a date in May to run the Willington Athletics Championships at Kingsmeadow athletics track near New Malden, for our Years 3-6 athletics squad. This will be a Prep school competition, where we will host all of our normal opposition schools in what will hopefully be a huge event. Having the opportunity to compete at that track will also be an amazing experience, and it gives us the opportunity to have events such as long jump, hurdles and javelin back on the schedule.
Have a great weekend.

Congratulations to William, who capped off an incredible 2025 by winning the prestigious Victor Ludorum in the Prep Sports day. He is a pupil with a huge amount of talent and potential, and I was really proud of how he performed.
It is also a fantastic achievement to win it in Year 3.
Well done William!
