It has been another busy week of learning in Year 2!
In Maths, we focused on 2D shapes and their properties. We revised the number of vertices and sides, looked at vertical lines of symmetry, and practised shape drawing with rulers to ensure accuracy. We concluded the week by sorting shapes using Venn diagrams.
In English, the children completed their work on 'Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish'. They planned their own versions of the story by changing characters and resolutions, recording their ideas as story maps, and then wrote their narratives in the style of the original. We were very impressed with their first attempts at longer narrative pieces.
In Science, we explored the effects of exercise on the body through an outdoor practical investigation. The children performed six different movements in one minute and used descriptive words like “hot”, “out of breath”, “tired”, and “heart beating faster” to describe how they felt.
In History, we continued our Tudors topic by studying Henry VIII. The children learnt about his early life, personality, hobbies, and duties as a monarch. They also enjoyed creating Tudor rose collages in their creative topic lesson. We are looking forward to our Hampton Court Palace visit next week, which will further immerse the children in Tudor life.
Have a wonderful weekend.
