Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
We are really into the swing of the new term now. In Maths, we focused on addition and subtraction. First, the children learnt that addition can be done in any order, and that using addition facts can help us to do more tricky caluclations. They also practised subtraction and finding the difference, using a number line. In English, we looked at a story map made of pictures of our text ‘Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish’. The children were able to use them to re-tell the story to a partner, adding in some of the story vocabulary and phrasing they had remembered before creating their own version of the story map. We then considered the characters, and what the man and dinosaur might be thinking, feeling and saying, with a helpful 'visit' from the man himself to answer the children's questions. As a result, we had amazingly thoughtful responses.
In Science, we learnt more about the importance of a healthy, balanced diet. We looked at the food pyramid and sorted different foods into their correct categories. During our creative lesson, we planned a healthy meal using Lego to represent different food groups and designed a healthy plate. In History, we continued our Tudors topic with a focus on the lives and education of Tudor children, both rich and poor. It was thought-provoking to compare how children lived differently in the past. In Geography, we set off to the USA with Buzzy and learned about what this vast country has to offer.
Have a wonderful weekend.
