Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
What a week it’s been! From sunny cricket matches to an exciting Virtual Evolution Workshop and a fascinating trip to Winston Churchill’s home, Chartwell, we’ve certainly kept busy.
Amidst this week’s assessments, we’ve continued our revision journey. We revisited the topic of Circles, practising how to use π (Pi) to calculate circumference, diameter, or area. Some of us focused on refreshing their understanding of the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages, while others worked on solving problems involving percentages of amounts. It was a great way to sharpen our skills and building confidence.
This week in Humanities, we continued planning our exciting Eastern Europe Interrailing adventures. As part of the challenge, each group blindly selected a Chance Card- a surprise twist or obstacle to incorporate into their trip. Some of us turned out to be true risk-takers: after discovering our first challenge, we bravely opted to draw another... and a few thrill-seekers even took on three! It’s been fascinating to see how each group tackled their unique scenarios, and we can’t wait to start presenting our final itineraries at the end of next week!
In English, ahead of our trip to The Globe next week, we have started Macbeth, looking at the initial battle scene; how the protagonist is introduced; as well as the also the role of the witches, in relation to their place in Elizabethan England. In Science, just before wrapping up our topic on Classification, we explored the genus Homo in more detail. We aimed to understand how Homo sapiens have evolved over time and what came before our species. It was fascinating to learn that, over several million years, there were around 20 now extinct bipedal ancestors of modern humans. We also took part in an exciting virtual workshop hosted by the Natural History Museum, on the topic of evolution.
Year 6 have started their new topic: La ropa (Clothes). We have been learning to recognise and spell a range of clothing items in Spanish, starting with ten items and then progressing to a further eleven, all with the correct indefinite articles. We were introduced to the structure “llevo” (I wear), that will help us build sentences and expand our linguistic skills. ¡Qué estilo, Year 6! 👕👗🇪🇸
Have a great weekend!
