Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
We can’t believe how quickly this first week back has flown by! It’s been full of action - from a fun-packed Oates afternoon, to the vibrant Art Exhibition, and our final Music recital of the year.
In Humanities, we were introduced to our exciting new Geography project: planning an interrailing trip across Eastern Europe! It’s a more challenging version of our Year 5 USA project, and Mrs Draper has really raised the stakes this year. We’re using real-life train timetabling software alongside MyMaps digital mapping tools. To make things even more interesting, we’ll each receive a surprise Chance card during the project. It might bring us extra money, or a tricky twist, like losing our passports, and we’ll need to build our solution into our final plan. It’s safe to say we’re VERY excited and can’t wait to show you the results!
In Maths, we’ve been focusing on revision, starting with a Common Entrance 13+ paper to test our understanding. We’ve also revisited key topics such as Circles, Area of Circles, and Probability. We’re looking forward to demonstrating our progress in next week’s PTM. This week in Science, we learnt about Carl Linnaeus and his system for classifying living things. We found out that each species has a Latin name. For example, in the name Homo sapiens, Homo is the genus and sapiens is the species. We all chose a living organism to research and discovered its scientific classification and Latin name.
In English this week, we have been writing, editing and publishing a script for one of the scenes in Romeo and Juliet. We then performed them as a class, to much applaud. We have also done planning, using persuasive (AFOREST) features, for our letter to propose the Outward Bound Trust as next year's school charity.
