Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
6th June 2025
In one week's time we will be holding our first whole school photograph for a number of years to celebrate our 140th anniversary. This is a big undertaking and for this year we will be closing the road in order to set up in front of the school for the photograph. I hope every single member of the community can make it and that absence on Friday is as low as it possibly could be. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on being part of this moment in history. Obviously we require every child to look as smart as possible, so full school uniform and polished shoes are the order of the day. We will also have the Year 6 Leavers' photo and Scholars' photo taken straight after the main one.
This week kicked off with an assembly held by the Eco Council, who shared the research they had undertaken on the amount of food that is wasted every day at Willington. It really was an eye-opener and we are having a real push towards reducing the amount of food that we waste across the school. Thank you to Miss Brown and the children for all their hard work on this and a number of other eco-friendly initiatives around school.
This week, there have been a couple of trips out and about, with Year 2 on Tuesday visiting the Natural History Museum and, on Thursday, Year 6 visiting Polesden Lacey as part of the Oates afternoon programme. We were also fortunate to have Molly Potter come to school on Monday to talk to both staff and parents about managing behaviour in their children. I hope those who attended found it valuable.
This week has also seen a couple of big school events, with our final music recital of the year on Tuesday, which was a wonderful showcase for our musicians. Thank you to Ms Callaway for making sure as many children as possible have been able to perform in front of their parents and friends throughout the year. Another big showcase event on Thursday was the wonderful art exhibition, and I'm sure you'll agree that there are plenty of fine young artists across the school who are displaying a great deal of potential through their artwork. Thank you to Miss Beere for organising this event.
On the sporting front, our tennis team in Year 6 have made it through to the next round of the Surrey Cup and, as I write this, our athletics team are competing at Harrodian School, so hopefully there will be news of some great performances. Finally, tomorrow the Willington Golf Day gets under way and there will be many fingers crossed that the rain stays away for this fun event.
Whatever you get up to this weekend, I hope you have a great time. KB
