Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
This week, Year 2 have been busy with a range of exciting activities and learning opportunities. In Maths, we focused on statistics and the children practised constructing and interpreting block graphs, as well as answering questions about data in pictograms. The pupils also worked very hard on their assessments and completing comprehension, combined punctuation and grammar, and maths papers this week, showing excellent effort and determination throughout.
In Science, the pupils continued their work on their wonderful and informative habitat posters. In History, we began our final topic of the year: ‘Seaside holidays in the past’. The children found out about the clothing worn, food eaten, entertainment, and activities enjoyed at the seaside during the Victorian era. It was interesting to compare seaside holidays then and now. In Geography, we started a new topic on seas and coasts. The children worked on locating and identifying oceans and continents, developing their map skills and global awareness.
The highlight of our week was our trip to the Natural History Museum, which complemented our Habitats topic perfectly. The children enjoyed a hands-on minibeast hunt workshop in the museum’s nature garden, explored bugs, dinosaurs and mammals in the galleries, and participated enthusiastically in deep sea themed challenges during an Ocean Life and Habitats interactive show, including ‘rescuing’ a giant squid from a sperm whale!
It has been a wonderful week of learning and discovery—a great way to start the half term.
Have a wonderful weekend.
