Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
This week in Reception, we had a wonderful time exploring the story 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister. The children loved diving into the themes of friendship and sharing, and we created some beautiful fish-inspired art to go alongside our book focus. A real highlight was our fish anatomy session, where we explored the parts of a real fish—there was lots of curiosity and great questions!
In our writing, we thought carefully about what makes each of us special, just like the Rainbow Fish learned to value himself and others. The children shared thoughtful ideas and showed pride in their unique qualities—it was a lovely moment of reflection and celebration.
In Maths, we had fun learning about odd and even numbers through sharing activities, using objects to divide into equal groups. We also practised counting in 10s, using our fingers and toes to help us – lots of giggles and excellent number work all around!
Another big focus this week was rehearsing for our class assembly. The children worked incredibly hard, showing confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm in every rehearsal. We were all so proud of their final performance—it was a joy to see them shine on stage and share their learning with others. Well done, Reception!
