Last week before the Christmas holidays, and as we type, the school is buzzing with Christmas excitement as we prepare for our annual Christmas fair!
In Maths, Year 5 has spent the week revising the different types of triangles; investigating the sum of the angles in a triangle, calculating missing angles in triangles and constructing triangles. In English, we finished reading Beowulf - hearing of the sad end to the heroic warrior. We also started writing our own myth, using our planning, we have created a hero and a villain to create an engaging tale.
In French this week, we revised colours and described classroom objects using simple adjectives in sentences. We also discussed feminine and plural adjective agreements with nouns. In Latin, we spent most of our Latin lesson enjoying the dress rehearsal of the Year 1 and 2 Christmas show, but we just had time to start creating our posters about the layout of a Roman public baths. In History this week we have been completing our Viking knowledge organiser by including facts about how they celebrated Yuletide (Christmas) - we were surprised to see a lot of similarities to how we celebrate today! In Geography we have using Venn diagrams to compare two major cities from the UK and Scandinavia and used our inference skills to draw supported comparisons.
This week in Science, we started our new topic, Earth and Space. We explored what the universe is and how distances are measured using light years. We learnt about galaxies, including our own, the Milky Way, and discussed constellations. Finally, we studied the Solar System, focusing on the Sun, Earth, and Moon. In Drama this week, the pupils continued their exploration of Beowulf. We began with a paired improvised dialogue between Beowulf and Hrothgar. The children then became inanimate objects in the Great Mead Hall, thought-tracking opinions about Grendel's imminent attack!
Finally, next weeks looks to be really busy, so here are some key items to take note of:
