Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
In Maths, we have covered addition and subtraction using a 2-digit and 1-digit number, doubling, and money, including combining coins to make a total. In English, we started on our new text, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. We watched a video showing connectives being performed as actions and the children had a go at replicating some of them. We then read the text and familiarised ourselves with the story. Using only a story map, the pupils then re-told the story in their own words to a partner and worked in pairs to sequence pictures from the book.
In Science this week, we continued our ‘Shaping Up’ topic with an investigation into how the shape of some everyday objects can be changed, by stretching, twisting, bending and squashing them. In History, the children researched facts about the Plague and wrote their own information pieces on the spread and symptoms of the Black Death in 1665. In Geography, the pupils learnt all about China and created their own fact files about the country and the children also made some beautiful Chinese dragon models in their Creative topic session.
Have a wonderful weekend!
