Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club Scholarships

The Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club offers two scholarship programs for graduates of Wilkes Central High School. One scholarship program gives special consideration for children of club members and/or those living in the geographic area served by the club. Students must complete an interview and are awarded points for 1) interview skill; 2) work and/or volunteer experience; and 3) special family circumstances. The other scholarship program, called the Bob and Lynn Bogue Art Scholarship, is for a student planning to study visual arts. In addition to the other scholarship guidelines, students must present a portfolio of their work for the art scholarship. Deadline for both scholarships is April 17.


Chris Eckard Memorial Scholarship

Two $6,000 scholarships in memory of Appalachian State graduate Chris Eckard will be awarded to seniors who are planning to attend Appalachian State University in the fall. Deadline is April 12. 


Christopher W. Thompson Memorial Scholarship 

HM3 Christopher W. Thompson was killed in the line of duty and this $500 scholarship is awarded by the local VFW Post 1142 and Ladies Auxiliary in his memory. One scholarship awarded to a student at NWHS and one awarded to another student from the other county high schools. Deadline is May 1.


James E. and Violet A. Carson Scholarship 

Successful applicants are residents of Wilkes County who have been accepted into a two-year or four-year college or university and demonstrate financial need. First preference will be given to members of or children of Cub Creek Baptist Church in Moravian Falls; second preference will be for students who live in Moravian Falls; and third preference will be given to other county residents. Deadline is March 31.


Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship 

Celebrating their 100th year in 2023, the North Wilkesboro Kiwanis Club is excited to offer $3,750 in scholarships to students who are graduating senior Key Club members from the county high schools. The criteria for this award is demonstrated academic excellence, citizenship through service, and leadership. Students must be a current member of their school's Key Club to apply.  Scholarship amounts will be determined by the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee. Deadline is Friday, April 1, by 5 p.m.


Lois Ann Triplett Memorial Scholarship

$500 scholarship provided to a graduate of West Wilkes High School or Wilkes Central High School, the two schools connected to the Triplett family. Lois Ann Triplett was a Wilkes County Schools employee for 29 years. She was a faithful servant to the community and her family. Lois Ann tragically and swiftly passed away in the fall of 2023 after only 9 days following a devastating cancer diagnosis. Lois Ann valued education for herself, for her children and for her grandchildren.  Deadline is May 15, 2024.


Major Larry J. Bauguess Memorial Scholarship  

Two $1000 scholarships (one for a male and one for a female) for WCHS seniors. Applicants must have minimum 3.0 gpa, must possess strong character traits, and be civic-minded, as evidenced by their extracurricular involvement in the school or the local community. Application requires an essay on a character trait. Deadline is May 1.


North Wilkesboro Elks Club Scholarship (provided by Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1846 Lodge)

The local Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1846 will offer a $500 scholarship to one student from each of the county's high schools. Applications should be returned to school counselors no later than April 1. 


North Wilkesboro Rotary Club Foundation Scholarships 

Two scholarships are available at each of the traditional county high schools and one scholarship is available to students attending Wilkes Early College High School. The Hugh Martin Scholarship is for students planning to attend a four-year college or university and four $1000 scholarships will be awarded. The Gene Foster Scholarship is for students planning to attend Wilkes Community College (or another community college) and four $1000 scholarships will be awarded. One Ricky Pardue Scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a senior at Wilkes Early College High School who plans to attend a four-year college or university in the fall. Deadline for you to return your application to your school counselor is May 6, 2024.


Rear Admiral Scott Sears Memorial JROTC Scholarship

Scholarship for a JROTC student who plans to pursue a military career. In Wilkes County, students from North Wilkes and Wilkes Central JROTC programs are eligible to apply. Deadline is March 1.


VFW Scholarship

$500 scholarship awarded by the Blue Ridge Mountain VFW Post 1142 to a senior in each of the four Wilkes County high schools. Deadline is May 1. 


WCHS Academic Booster Scholarship

A $500 scholarship to be given to a WCHS senior to recognize academic excellence and assist with the first year of higher education expenses. Applicants must have maintained a minimum 2.5 cumulative gpa and must submit all required application materials for full consideration. Deadline for applications to be returned to Mrs. Krenz is April 19.


WCHS Athletic Booster Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships to be given to WCHS seniors to recognize athletic achievement, promote good sportsmanship, and encourage high scholastic achievement for all WCHS athletes. Applicants must have played at least one varsity sport in their senior year, must exemplify good sportsmanship on and off the field (having a good disciplinary record as well), and must have maintained a minimum 2.5 cumulative gpa. Students who have received full college scholarships are not eligible. Financial need will not be a consideration. Deadline is May 1.


Wilkes County Cruisers

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one student from each traditional high school who is planning to pursue a career in a technical field. Successful applicants will be going into a technical field, have a 2.0 gpa (or lower), complete relevant technical coursework, and must plan to be a full-time student. A complete application consists of: 1) completed scholarship application form and 2) a copy of your high school transcript. All application materials must be mailed to the address on the application before April 25, 2024.
