Christopher W. Thompson Educational Scholarship

HM3 Christopher W. Thompson was killed in the line of duty and this $500 scholarship is awarded by the local VFW Post 1142 and Ladies Auxiliary in his memory. One scholarship awarded to a student at NWHS and one awarded to another student from the other county high schools. Deadline is May 1.


Daniel Holloway Welding Scholarship

One $750 scholarship awarded to NWHS senior who is entering the welding field. Financial need and evidence of a strong desire to enter the welding field is considered. Deadline is May 1 annually. 


Dr. Jeffrey Peal Memorial Wrestling Scholarship

The Dr. Jeffrey Peal Memorial Wrestling Scholarship is established to honor the memory and contributions of Dr. Jeffrey Peal to North Wilkes High School and Wilkes County Scholastic Wrestling and to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors from North Wilkes High School. The scholarship may provide a $1,000 non-renewable award for students who will pursue full-time undergraduate degrees from accredited post-secondary institutions. Scholarships will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board, and other college expenses. The criteria include a cumulative unweighted gpa of 3.0, have participated one full season with the varsity wrestling team, and demonstrate financial need. Deadline is May 1.


Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship 

Celebrating their 100th year in 2023, the North Wilkesboro Kiwanis Club is excited to offer $3,750 in scholarships to students who are graduating senior Key Club members from the county high schools. The criteria for this award is demonstrated academic excellence, citizenship through service, and leadership. Students must be a current member of their school's Key Club to apply.  Scholarship amounts will be determined by the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee. Deadline is Friday, April 1, by 5 p.m.


Mountain View Medical Center Scholarship

Two $1500 scholarships awarded to NWHS seniors planning to go into a medical field. Financial need and evidence of student motivation to finish college will be considered. Deadline is April 15 annually.


Mountain View Ruritan Club Scholarship

$500 scholarship for a NWHS senior based on financial need, character, scholarship, and academic promise. Deadline is March 15 annually.


Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club Scholarship

The Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club will provide a one time award of $500 to a student residing in the Mulberry-Fairplains attendance area who will attend Wilkes Community College. The recipient will be chosen from applications received by the Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee and will be based on the applicant’s need and on the potential of academic success as determined from past performance records provided by the applicant to the Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee. Deadline is April 30 annually.


Muzz's Gym for NWHS 

A full one year membership to Muzz's Gym will be awarded to a graduating senior athlete who will be attending Wilkes Community College. Deadline is May 1. 


North Wilkes High School Alumni Scholarship

The North Wilkes High School Alumni Scholarship was established in 2018 to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors from North Wilkes High School. The scholarship provides a $1,000 renewable(up to 4 years) award for students who will pursue full-time undergraduate degrees from accredited post-secondary institutions. Scholarships will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board, and other college expenses. To receive consideration, applicants must achieve a cumulative unweighted GPA  of at least 3.5 through the first semester of the 12th grade and demonstrate financial need.Student's financial need and merit will be equally weighted. Applications due to senior counselor no later than May 1st annually. 


North Wilkes Viking Athletic Club Grants

The North Wilkes High School Viking Athletic Club is pleased to offer an educational grant in the amount of $1,000 to one graduating female athlete and one graduating male athlete. The female award is the Elaine B. Shepherd Viking Athletic Club Grant and the male award is the Jim Prevette Viking Athletic Club Grant. Deadline is April 28.


North Wilkesboro Elks Club Scholarship (provided by Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1846 Lodge)

The local Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1846 will offer a $500 scholarship to one student from each of the county's high schools. Applications should be returned to school counselors no later than April 1. 


North Wilkesboro Rotary Club Foundation Scholarships 

Two scholarships are available at each of the traditional county high schools and one scholarship is available to students attending Wilkes Early College High School. The Hugh Martin Scholarship is for students planning to attend a four-year college or university and four $1000 scholarships will be awarded. The Gene Foster Scholarship is for students planning to attend Wilkes Community College (or another community college) and four $1000 scholarships will be awarded. One Ricky Pardue Scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a senior at Wilkes Early College High School who plans to attend a four-year college or university in the fall. Deadline for you to return your application to your school counselor is May 6, 2024.


Red Hot Dragon Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a former Red Hot Dragon student from Mountain View Elementary who is now a graduating senior from North Wilkes High School in pursuing their college/career challenges by providing a scholarship opportunity. This scholarship may be used for purchasing a required tool or uniform for the work force of their choice or in pursuing to further education at an accredited college or university or work training program. The 5th grade Beta Club will assist in choosing the recipient of this scholarship. Selection criteria includes:1) Individual must be a graduating senior from North Wilkes High School; 2) Individual must have attended Mountain View Elementary School for at least one of their elementary school years; and 3) Individual must be entering or continuing an accredited college/university education or must be entering the work force or a work training program. Applications due May 5, 2023.


Roy & Collie Sebastian Scholarship

This $1,000 renewable scholarship provides educational aid for graduating high school seniors from North Wilkes High School who are pursuing post-secondary education at private or public two-year or four-year colleges or institutions. Deadline is April 30 for 2024.


VFW Scholarship

$500 scholarship awarded by the Blue Ridge Mountain VFW Post 1142 to a senior in each of the four Wilkes County high schools. Deadline is May 1.


Viking Crew Scholarships

This scholarship application allows students to apply to eleven different scholarships. The qualifications for each scholarship are: 1) be a NWHS senior, 2) have intentions of furthering your education beyond high school, 3) be of good character and display willingness to accept responsibility for yourself; 4) participate in extracurricular (at the school and/or in the community); and 5) show financial need. Deadline for scholarship is May 1.


Wilkes County Cruisers

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one student from each traditional high school who is planning to pursue a career in a technical field. Successful applicants will be going into a technical field, have a 2.0 gpa (or lower), complete relevant technical coursework, and must plan to be a full-time student. A complete application consists of: 1) completed scholarship application form and 2) a copy of your high school transcript. All application materials must be mailed to the address on the application before April 25, 2024
