Arlena Baker Creasman Memorial Scholarship

One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior of Wilkes County, NC, attending any high school including public, private, and homeschooling institutions. The student must be pursuing a human services degree (social work, counseling, sociology, or psychology). Deadline is April 20, 2024.


Charles Edward Cathey Masonic Scholarship

Eight non-renewable $1000 scholarships will be awarded. The Cathey Scholarship, funded by the Freemasons of North Carolina through the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, rewards high school seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement. The Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee selects recipients.  The scholarship committee will consider factors including scholastic achievement, participation in extracurricular and civic activities, involvement in the community and personal recommendations. Deadline is April 1.


Charlotte Ellis Scholarship 

Established by Ed Ellis, Jr., the Charlotte Ellis Scholarship Fund provides one or two scholarships per year, ranging from $500 to $5000 per year, to children of U.S. Military parents or grandparents. Deadline is April 15.


Community Foundation of Western North Carolina

CFWNC serves students in the western region of North Carolina, including Wilkes County. Many scholarships are listed, with deadlines falling between January and July. To view the deadlines, please go to this page. Scholarship amounts and requirements vary, so students will need to conduct their own search of this site.


Donna Ester Student Ethics Awards from Better Business Bureau of Central and Northwestern NC

​Four awards will be given to students who will be enrolling at any two or four year college/university or technical school in Fall 2021. One award will be $7500, one will be $5000 and two will be for $2500. Awards are non-renewable. Deadline is April 12, 2024.


FAFSA

While filing the FAFSA is not a scholarship, it is an essential part of seeking scholarships and financial aid for college. Many scholarship programs use FAFSA calculations to determine financial need. Additionally, colleges and universities award federal financial aid dollars based on a first-come, first-served basis, so you want to be sure you are considered for aid you may be eligible to receive. 


​Jesse David Bundy and Katie B. Bundy Scholarship Trust

The Jesse David Bundy and Katie B. Bundy Scholarship Trust was established in 1997 by Dr. William L. Bundy, a physician who provided health care to Wilkes County residents from 1940 to 1988. In establishing this scholarship program, Dr. Bundy wanted to honor the memory of his parents and to encourage Wilkes County students to pursue careers in the medical field. The amount of the scholarship varies and is determined annually by the scholarship committee. Deadline is April 1.


Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship 

Celebrating their 100th year in 2023, the North Wilkesboro Kiwanis Club is excited to offer $3,750 in scholarships to students who are graduating senior Key Club members from the county high schools. The criteria for this award is demonstrated academic excellence, citizenship through service, and leadership. Students must be a current member of their school's Key Club to apply.  Scholarship amounts will be determined by the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee. Deadline is April 1, by 5 p.m.


Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation's oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military families. Last year they awarded over $10.8 million to more than 2,700 students. 10% of those scholarships were CTE Scholarships for students pursuing non-degree certificate CTE programs. They provide scholarships to eligible children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen, Chaplains, and Religious Program Specialists. Their CTE Scholarships are for students pursuing a non-degree certificate program at any accredited school--whether that be a trade school, career training school, or community college. Be sure to check out this CTE scholarship brochure, their eligiblity criteria, and FAQs to get all of the details. The CTE scholarship applications are reviewed on a monthly basis, so it's never too late to apply. 


National Technical Honor Society Scholarships

There are several different scholarships available to members of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). The applications are available September - May each year. Check out their website for details and deadlines. 


NCAEOP (North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals) Scholarships from Wilkes County Chapter

The Wilkes County Chapter of the NCAEOP brings this scholarship opportunity to our students. The local chapter will award two $750 scholarships and the state organization awards over $9,000 to high school seniors seeking degrees in business through several different scholarships. Scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, initiative, and financial need. You do not need to make additional copies as suggested on the last page (WCAEOP will do that for you). Applications must be returned to Michele Parsons at Wilkes County Schools Central Services - Finance Office, local scholarship chair, by April 30, 2024.


NC Assist Scholarship Contest

CFNC sponsored monthly $1000 scholarship drawing. Simply fill out the form and your name is entered into the drawing. A new winner is selected every month, but you have to re-apply every month for consideration.


NC Bar Association Scholarship for Children of NC Law Enforcement Officers

Scholarship awards ranging from $1500 to $3000 for children whose parent was permanently disabled or killed while in the line of duty. Deadline is April 1 annually.


NC Child Support Council and Bob R. McGuire Memorial Scholarships

$1000 scholarship ($500 per semester) for a high school graduate attending a NC institution of higher learning who has at least one parent who is a member of the NC Child Support Council or a client of the Child Support Program. Minimum "C" average during high school is required. Download application here too. Deadline is April 5, 2024.


NCHSAA Endowed Funds Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of many donors, there are several scholarships offered to eligible student-athletes. Deadlines fall between November and April and require the submission of a form to the high school counselor to release transcripts to the scholarship committee. Please review all scholarships offered to determine your eligibility.​


Next NC Scholarship

The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians from households making $80,000 or less pursue a higher education, by fully covering tuition and fees at any community college in the state or more than half of, if not all, tuition and fees to attend any public university in North Carolina. Students attending a North Carolina community college will receive at least $3,000 - more than the cost of full-time tuition. Those attending a public university will receive a minimum of $5,000, which pays for more than half, if not all, of tuition and fees. All you need to do to apply is complete the FAFSA!


North Carolina Homebuilders' Educational & Charitable Foundation Scholarship

The North Carolina Home Builders Educational & Charitable Foundation, Inc. (NCHBECF) will award a $1,000 scholarship to a community college or technical school student in each of the NC Homebuilders' Association's (NCHBA) eight regions. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are entering a program considered to be a skilled trade in the construction industry (i.e., carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.). They do not have to be related to an NCHBA member nor do they have to be nominated by one; however, those recommended or related to an NCHBA member will take preference. Deadline is April 30, 2024. 


North Wilkesboro Elks Club Scholarship (provided by Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1846 Lodge)

The local Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks #1846 will offer a $500 scholarship to one student from each of the county's high schools. Applications should be returned to school counselors no later than April 3.


Oleen Norman Tharpe Art Scholarship

$500 scholarship that honors the legacy of Oleen Norman Tharpe of Wilkes County, NC, who used her artistic talents and creativity to encourage countless young artists while working as a teacher’s aide at Ronda-Clingman Elementary School, as a private art teacher, and as a character designer through her sock dolls. Her 2023 children’s book, Teena Maureen and Yellow and Blue Make Green, showcases one of her many characters. Scholarship is available to any Wilkes County resident attending a two-year or four-year college in the Fall who is majoring in a specific art major and who completes the application with attention to detail and commitment to education through their GPA, artwork, awards, and ambition.  Deadline is by 11:59 pm on April 26, 2024.


R.L. Melton Agricultural Scholarship

$1000 scholarship provided for a Wilkes County senior or recent graduate pursuing a post-secondary degree in agriculture. Financial need and strong motivation to finish agricultural degree will be significant considerations for this award. Deadline is April 30.


State Employees Association of NC (SEANC) Scholarships

SEANC members' children are eligible to apply for a scholarship based on either financial need or on academic merit. Deadline is April 15.


The Health Foundation (application available on March 11, 2024)

Scholarships up to $2000 designed to help Wilkes students pursue making their health care career dreams a reality. Scholarship is renewable on an annual basis when students remain in good academic standing (gpa of 3.0 or higher) within their declared major. Past awards have been made to students studying to become nurses, respiratory therapists, optometrists, radiology technologists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and more. Wilkes Art Gallery Scholarship

$1000 scholarship for students pursuing post-secondary education in visual arts or graphic arts. The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize and encourage students who demonstrate exceptional potential and ability in visual arts, as well as academic excellence. The awarding process for scholarships includes a completed application, official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation, a portfolio, and a panel interview. Deadline is April 26, 2024.


Wilkes Communications Scholarship

Since 2008, 400 scholarships totaling over $400,000 have been given to students in Wilkes. Scholarships are for any students graduating from a Wilkes County high school who plans to attend a college/university next year. Deadline for submission of online application is April 12, 2024.


Wilkes Community College Education Promise Scholarship

WCC Education Promise is a two-year, last-dollar scholarship designed to ensure every qualifying student graduating from high school in Wilkes, Ashe, and Alleghany counties can get a college degree from Wilkes Community College tuition-free. This scholarship program makes sure every qualifying student is 100% covered for the roughly $2,571 annual cost for tuition and institutional fees.

Wilkes County Cruisers

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one student from each traditional high school who is planning to pursue a career in a technical field. Successful applicants will be going into a technical field, have a 2.0 gpa or below, complete relevant technical coursework, and must plan to be a full-time student. A complete application consists of: 1) completed scholarship application form and 2) a copy of your high school transcript. All application materials must be mailed to the address on the application before April 25, 2024.


Wilkes County Farm Bureau Scholarship 

$500 per year scholarship (available for two years) for student who plans to attend any two-year or four-year college. Criteria for selection includes satisfactory scholastic record, leadership potential, and good character. Preference is given to Farm Bureau member families. Deadline is April 15, 2024.


Wilkes Soil and Water Conservation Scholarship

$1000 scholarship to a graduating senior from one of the Wilkes County high schools who plans to attend an accredited post-secondary institution. Participation in our local conservation education programs and other subjects pertaining to the natural environment is a plus. The student is expected to have an interest and potential career in agronomy, agricultural or civil engineering, agriculture sustainability, agriculture education, animal science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, soil science, water management, water quality, wildlife management, or another closely related degree program. Winston-Salem Foundation

The Foundation has been providing financial assistance to students for over 94 years and has helped more than 15,000 students attend college. Last year, there were 614 scholarships worth $1.4 million dollars awarded to 537 students from Wilkes, Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. There are many scholarships available through this site that all use a single scholarship application, with deadlines beginning in January. The deadline for most merit-based scholarships is April 1, and the deadline for financial need based scholarships is July 1. Definitely check this website out to see what might fit for you. The single-stop scholarship application opens January 1.


WKBC Scholarship

$5,000 scholarship for a student pursuing a career in broadcasting, marketing, advertising, or a related field. Please see this flyer for full information. Deadline is April 19, 2024.
