Using the Dashboard

Find key information at glance on the Xero Dashboard

Your business at a glance

We recommend you use the dashboard to:

  • keep an eye on your bank account

  • monitor cash in-out

  • monitor key performance indicators such as gross profit

  • keep an eye on outstanding invoices and bills you need to pay.

The dashboard will show you how many items are unreconciled on your bank account. If we provide bookkeeping services, our bookkeeper will reconcile these for you.

There's no need to keep a pile of invoices to pay. Simply set a reminder to check your dashboard each week.

Bank Accounts

See how much cash is in your bank account. You'll also see PayPal, GoCardless and other payment service accounts.

Monitor cash coming in and going out of your business and spot trends.

Bills and Invoices

See what bills you need to pay. Click on 'Awaiting Payment'. You may find it useful to add 'planned payment' dates when you set up bank transfers.

See who owes you money by clicking 'Awaiting Payment' or 'Overdue'. (Switch on automatic invoice reminders if you haven't already done so). Make sure draft invoices are approved and sent as soon as you can.

Account Watchlist

You may find it useful to keep an eye on particular accounts, such as Advertising & Marketing. To add or remove accounts, click your company name (top left) > Settings > Looking for Advanced Settings? > Chart of accounts. Search for the relevant account, click the account name and check or uncheck 'Show on Dashboard Watchlist'.

Business Performance

We'd recommend you add your key business performance indicators to your dashboard. They're not included as standard!

Add them by going to Accounting > Reports > Financial ... More reports > Business Performance.

We recommend you star Gross Profit % and Net Profit % as a minimum.

Move your dashboard around to suit you. Click 'Edit dashboard' at the bottom of your screen, then Hide / Show elements and drag to your preferred place.

Add new or remove old bank accounts by going to Accounting > Bank Accounts. Check or uncheck 'Show account on dashboard'.
