Tufting

I am very interested in weaving, and in the past few years I have tried to weave in different ways, such as scarves, hats, and even airpods cases. Out of the psychology of wanting to try new ways/crafts to make handmade products, I tried tufting through a Taiwanese friend’s recommendation. Tufting is undertood as a kind of three-dimensional (3D) art and jewelry and to decorate clothing by the definition. But what I have tried is to use the tufting process to staple the yarn to a piece of cloth to make a rug or a coaster.

Unlike my previous experience, this time I need to use a machine that looks like a gun and looks like a sewing machine. First of all, I printed pattern I chose on the canvas through projection and trace it with a marker pen. I chose the flip card in uno and make it into a floor mat and put it in my room to reminds me. "Try to 'flip' the situation when I am in a bad mood". After tracing the pattern on the canvas, I need to choose from different colors and different materials of wool. That's the praperation steps for tufting, after that, I can start to use the tufting gun to staple the yarn to the cloth: First, I unravel the ball of wool and string a piece of yarn into the tufting gun to fix it, then press the trigger; to change the color, I need to remove all the wool from the tufting gun and then put a new wool color in. This step has been repeated for nearly three hours. After completing this step, I only need to cover the canvas with liquid glue and then fix the base on the back.

I need to repeatedly turn the canvas to the front to see if there are any gaps while working. This actually reminds me of when I deal with things in daily life. It is also necessary to turn over and over again to check for mistakes. "Having a careful inspection attitude towards the things I face" is a valuable phrase brought to me by this manual experience.

Hand-made Jewelry

During this year's spirit week, I participated in a workshop that teaching people to make handmade jewelry.

I chose beads of the same size in different colors: white, blue, cyan and light orange. In this way, even if the color difference is relatively large, it will not look so inconsistent. After I chose the beads I need, a thin rope need to be prepared by myself that just surrounds and suit my wrist, and then tied a knot at one end of the rope to secure the beads I put in so that they won't fall off easily. After making these preparations, I started to pick up the beads with tweezers and string them into the string in this order: between every four white beads, put two blue beads, put four white beads, and then put two a cyan, and so on. At last, all I need to do is to tie the two ends of the rope together and then apply glue to fix it.
