New on the WakeID Dashboard: Adobe Spark & SketchUp

"We have 2 new tools added to our RapidIdentity WakeID Dashboard - Adobe Spark and SketchUp. Can you tell us more about them?"

There are a range of digital tools that support instruction. Check out the tools listed below.

What's new on the RapidIdentity WakeID dashboard?

WCPSS is continuously adding new single sign-on resources to our RapidIdentity WakeID dashboard. Adobe Spark and SketchUp have just been added. Both of these tools are great to use with students.

What Is Adobe Spark for Education? (2:30)

Adobe Spark for Education

Using Adobe Spark, you and students can easily create and share visual content – like graphics, web stories, and animated video. It's simple to use and creates beautiful 'professional' results.

I am currently using Adobe Spark Video with my students. Be sure to stop by and ask 3rd grade, in particular Ms. Oliver, how their students are using Adobe Spark for their videos too.

FYI: You can earn CEU credits via Kyte Learning as you learn more about Adobe Spark.

Scholastic & Adobe Spark

These sample projects from Scholastic created using Adobe Spark are sure to give you ideas for how this product can be used with your students.

SketchUp

SketchUp is 3D design software. While I have not personally used SketchUp, I have learned that you can:

  • Create 3D models of buildings, furniture, interiors, landscapes, and more objects.
  • Share 3D models as walkthrough animations, scenes, or printouts, with realistic light and shadows. You can even print a model on our 3D printer.

I envision our students:

  • creating models for new playground equipment by applying their understanding of shapes,
  • designing their own coffee cups or pencil cases for their new business,
  • designing new buildings for Raleigh by applying their understanding of perimeter, area ,and volume,
  • designing houses for the 3 Little Pigs to connect with ELA,
  • and designing an animal habitat for the Bugg Zoo to connect with Science.

Go ahead and dive into SketchUp. Then you can share your expertise with all of us.

Common Sense Media's curated resource

Common Sense Media has a range of cross curricular lesson plans that integrate SketchUp and other Tech tools with the curriculum.

Students will deepen their understanding of maps and a "birds eye view" by creating a 3D model of their bedroom .

Students create a proposal to upgrade the playground.

Students explore Duck/ Programmatic architecture and create their own architectural design.

Students share their learning of geometric concepts by creating a digital city.

Students will inquire and discover how building are constructed.

Check out TeachersPayTeachers for some SketchUp resources, such as the fun Shark Buildings
