Convergence Conference Highlights
"What is Convergence? Why did you all attend?"
Convergence is the county-wide professional development conference for all of WCPSS Media and Technology staff. There are a variety of sessions where staff share ideas, swap strategies, discuss new initiatives, and more. Below you can check out the resources from the sessions I attended as well as the additional sessions that were offered throughout the day.
Kid Tested, Teacher Approved
In this session, I enjoyed learning about:
- animation activities, especially the ones that use stop motion for Science and EL topics.
- Using Makey Makey to create interactive posters
- and ways to create your own Google Expeditions were also interesting.
iCreate
In this session, we explored iPad apps such as:
- Markup - A native iPad tool, Markup lets you easily annotate images by creating drawing, typing labels, and more. I loved using the pens, highlighter, shapes, and ruler.
- Swift Playground - Geared towards 4 grade and up, it was fun learning to code using Swift Playground. Go ahead and give the challenges a go!
- Clips - One of my favorite apps, Clips lets you create fun videos with emojis, animated titles, stickers and more. I love that it will automatically creates captions live while you record.
Idea Lab
New this year, the Idea Lab was an interactive showcase. We were able to ask questions, hear short presentations, and see visuals. For me, the highlights of the Idea Lab were:
Dash Across the Curriculum
The highlights in this session included gathering ideas for using Dash with a range of curricular topics and exploring the Cue robot.
The linked website contains a variety of resources such as station ideas and management strategies.
