Learners with average to above average cognitive abilities who experience perceptual challenges and therefore underachieve in the areas of Reading, Spelling and/or Mathematics
Nine (9) Schools in the Western Cape provide education to learners diagnosed with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). These schools aim to meet the educational, vocational and therapeutic needs of these learners.
To this end the schools empower learners with education, training, development and care towards a fulfilled life and complete citizenship. The schools ensure that learners have the appropriate skills, education and competencies to effectively participate in the broader social and economic world.
Learners with Specific Learning Disabilities offer (CAPS) Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements up to Grade 12, enabling them to participate in Further Education and Training (FET), up to University level.

REFERRAL PATHWAY
Special Schools provide effective educational support to learners experiencing barriers to learning and development. Referrals to a Special School follow a referral pathway as illustrated below
