Daniel Boone High School (DBHS), David Crockett High School (DCHS), Tennessee Virtual Learning Academy (TVLA), and Washington County Alternative School (WCAS) operate on a block schedule. Students have two semesters: Fall and Spring. Each semester, students have four block classes (1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th) that last for approximately 85 minutes and one singleton period (3rd) that lasts 50 minutes. The block classes change each semester (August and January). The singleton period (3rd) is a yearlong course. Students have the opportunity to earn 9 credits each school year with the modified block schedule.
DBHS/DCHS Schedule:
1st block: 7:45-9:05
2nd block: 9:10-10:30
3rd period singleton (yearlong): 10:35-11:20
4th block: 11:25-1:20 - This period includes a 25 minute lunch. There are four different lunches. Lunches are assigned based on the 4th period teacher.
5th block: 1:25-2:45
TVLA & WCAS Schedule:
Students do not have to follow a bell schedule. Students are required to login and complete work each day. All courses must be completed by the end of each semester. TVLA students complete work from home. WCAS students must report to the Asbury campus each day assigned to the alternative school/program.
Schedule Requests
High school course selection should be made with careful consideration. School counselors and administrators will use multiple points of student data to help determine the best placement for students when discussing placement options with students and parents. Parents and students should be aware of high school graduation requirements and postsecondary goals when discussing course placement.
Upcoming ninth grade students and their parents begin meeting with high school counselors starting in March to discuss high school courses of study and request high school classes for the next school year. This meeting happens after school hours at the high school.
Upcoming tenth and eleventh grader students meet with high school counselors during the school day in March & April to request courses for the next school year.
Upcoming seniors have one-on-one meetings with high school counselors during the school day starting in March to request courses for the next school year.
Students are placed in advanced coursework (Honors/Dual Credit/Industry Certification-Aligned Courses/Dual Enrollment/Advanced Placement) based on the academic standards listed in Washington County Board of Education Policy 4.205 Enrollment in Advanced Courses linked here.
Schedule Changes
Schedules are published in PowerSchool one week before school starts. If a student loses his/her PowerSchool password, please contact the school.
Students can make schedule change requests by using the link published on the school's counseling website (DBHS or DCHS) during the three days of each semester. Students must meet the criteria listed on the form for the schedule to be changed. Counselors publish this form one week before school starts.
For AP/Honors, once course selection is complete, student- and/or parent-initiated requests to drop the course will only be considered if the student is found to be academically misplaced by the student's teacher after thirty days of instruction, and the school principal approves the request to move the student to a different course. For more information, please review Washington County Board of Education Policy 4.205 Enrollment in Advanced Courses linked here.
Daniel Boone High School and David Crockett High School use Canvas as the Learning Management System (LMS). A Learning Management System (LMS) is an online dashboard where courses and assignments are posted. Students and parents should login to the CANVAS site to view each class. Teachers post the course syllabus, expectations, PowerPoints, videos, handouts, etc. to Canvas so that students have access to course materials through their assigned Chromebook.
To access Canvas, students should go to wcde.instructure.com. Students will login by using their school issued email address. If the student does not know the password, the student should click the Forgot Password link at the bottom of the page. Canvas will send a reset password link to the student's school email address. If the student does not receive the link, first ensure that the student is on the correct website: wcde.instructure.com. If the student cannot login after attempting to recover the password, please contact the school.
Parents can view courses in Canvas by signing up for an account. To sign up, parents should email the classroom teachers for a pairing code. Once received, the parent goes to wcde.instructure.com and clicks the link in the top right that says "Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account." For additional support, please contact the school.
Washington County Schools uses PowerSchool for attendance and grading. Parents and students can monitor attendance and grades through the PowerSchool Portal located here.
PARENTS
Accounts carry over from year to year K-12 regardless of school changes in Washington County. If a parent had an account in the previous year, use the same login information to access the account even when the student moves from K-8 to high school. If a parent has never had an account, the parent should go to the main office at the school to request access. Identification will be required before student information can be released.
