A gap year is simply a year, or even less, taken out of formal education.
The year you choose to do this may occur during the transition from secondary school to tertiary education, or even after completing all formal education but before entering the workforce. Regardless of when it occurs, there are many options for gap years that include travel, work or volunteering.
Below you will find some of the more well known organisations who offer overseas gap year opportunities (most of which come to Wellington College to give presentations throughout the year) and we have added some words from their own websites to give you an indication of what they offer.
In addition, due to Covid-19 restricting overseas travel, we are including some NZ-based options for anyone wishing to take a gap year in 2021.
