Options Wellington and beyond

Weltec has their main base in Petone with additional campuses in the CBD

They have a choice of over 150 courses covering everything from short courses to certificates, diplomas and degree programmes.

They have dedicated open days each year. Petone campus on the first week of June. CBD campuses are open on the last Friday of August.

If you are interested in studying with Weltec, they can also arrange personal tours of the campuses.

Whitireia is a government owned and funded tertiary institute known by its high student success rate and culturally diverse student body.

Over 120 programmes of study are being offered covering postgraduate, degree, diploma and certificate levels. All of the programmes have been developed in conjunction with the industry, to offer excellent applied qualifications. M

You can study at one of their contemporary campuses in Porirua, Wellington and Kāpiti.

Te Kāhui Auaha is a new campus in the heart of Wellington. From 2018 it will house the creative programmes of both Whitireia and WelTec. Its facilities will include:

  • dance studios, rehearsal and performance spaces for theatre and stage

  • digital recording studios for musicians and artists

  • control-mixing rooms and an in-house radio station

  • stylists’ studios and salons for hair, beauty and make-up artistry

  • studios for creative technologies, jewellery making and other forms of visual arts

  • film photography studio and dark rooms

  • a 232 seat theatre

  • a 60-seat cinema

Yoobee School of Design is the largest specialised design and multimedia school in the country. Offering practical training in Digital Design, Web and UX Design, Animation, Film, 3D Production and Game Art and Development.

Youth Guarantee

This is a Government funded programme to help students transition from school into further training, study or work. This could be through the student completing courses/work/qualifications whilst still at school, for example with the Trade Academy, Gateway or STAR funded courses.

An excellent career stepping stone for those who are not going on to university

There is also a Fees-free programme (designed to provide 16–19-year-olds with an opportunity to study towards NCEA Level 2, aligned with the Vocational Pathways, or equivalent, at tertiary providers free-of-charge). Students take part in full-time study in programmes that are usually vocationally focused.
