A "Special Spot"is a place your student identifies that he or she has some interest in or connection to. It can be in your yard or someplace within walking distance. It's nice to find a spot with some nature, but not necessary. Just find a spot to sit that makes you feel safe. Your student will visit this spot every day for the duration of the school closure. Once there, students will sit quietly and observe. Start with 5 minutes and work your way up to 30 minutes. Then complete the writing and drawing projects in your special spot journal. This is a great multidisciplinary way to support social emotional health, writing, math, science, stewardship and art.
