Go outside and see what signs of spring your student can find. There is a list to get you started below. Write each one down and draw or paint a picture. See how many you can find! Older children can extend by writing sentences about what they observe and how it is an indication of the start of spring.

Signs of Spring:

• Birds chirping

• Birds nests

• Bees emerging from hibernation (be careful they are often on the ground!)

• Worm trails

• Buds or flowers on trees

• Daffodils (crocus, tulips etc)

• Moss Spores

• Animals waking up from hibernation

• Warmer weather

• Weeds start growing (dandelion, violets, ground ivy etc)

• Insects

• Robins hunting for worms

• Ferns beginning to make fiddleheads

• Frog spawn and tadpoles

Students can then collect some of the materials they’ve been observing and make a mandala (arrange natural materials in a circular pattern) or look at some of the artists in the presentation below for some nature art inspiration.
