SAFE SCHOOL POLICY
SAFE SCHOOL POLICY
The Washington County School District believes that every student has the right to learn in an environment that is safe, supportive, and free from unnecessary disruption. To protect the well-being of our school community, students are expected to follow accepted rules of conduct, show respect for others, and cooperate with school authorities.
Prohibited Conduct: Behaviors that threaten the safety of students or staff will not be tolerated. This includes physical violence, threats of harm, possession of weapons or controlled substances, vandalism, and any speech or expression that materially and substantially disrupts school operations.
Discipline and Support: The district utilizes a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to reinforce expected positive behaviors and ensure uniform, fair methods for correcting inappropriate actions. While the district promotes principles of restorative school discipline, serious violations may result in intervention, suspension, or expulsion.
Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI): Physical restraint or seclusionary timeouts are strictly prohibited for disciplinary purposes. School staff may only use reasonable and necessary physical restraint in situations of self-defense, to confiscate a dangerous object, or to protect students, staff, or property from immediate physical injury.
Parental Notification: The school maintains strict records of serious disciplinary incidents. Parents or guardians will be notified promptly regarding safety infractions, instances of bullying, or any threats to student safety.
Remember: A safe school starts with safe choices. Any behavior that compromises the safety or emotional well-being of others will be dealt with immediately and consistently.
