Positive
Several marching band section leaders combined their groups and divided teaching tasks based on their personal strengths. One leader was confident in their musicianship and rehearsed a section of the music, providing constructive feedback; another was a strong marcher and led a large-group session of physical fundamentals. Each leader respected the other’s position of authority and provided support as they took turns leading the combined group.
Negative
Jane, a club president, publicly criticized a committee leader’s approach to a project/initiative as she passed through an informal meeting.
Possible Resolution
The club advisor, made aware of Jane’s unfortunate comments, counseled her privately about appropriate avenues for her criticism and the importance of putting respect and kindness first. Jane apologized to the committee leader and the advisor helped the two leaders to discuss an efficient approach to the project. The end result was one of restored respect/trust and a more effective plan of action.
