*Reminder*Changes to Character for Learning descriptors:
There have been small changes to Character for Learning descriptors (not the grades). The language in the 'Disengaged Learner' descriptor now reads slightly differently. The word 'home work' now precedes 'deadlines' to make it clear that completing homework is a key part of good character for learning. You can find a copy of the Character for Learning grades on the CfL page of the student zone.

This document details some characterful behaviours that you could show for each of the character strengths. Showing these behaviours over time could earn you a star student or even an exceptional student! This document can be found at any time on the CfL page.

Fields opening:
We move to our summer term arrangements for outside spaces from today. Although given the weather over the weekend, it will be a wet weather day today. We will get you on the fields as soon as we can. Effective from today, there is one key change which affects all students in both dining venues. To help ensure our area is as litter free as possible, you will no longer be able to take plates/cartons or cutlery out of the dining areas. Any food served in cartons , on plates or which requires cutlery must be consumed in the dining hall (Years 9-11) or the assembly hall (Years 7 & 8). You can of course continue to take sandwiches, hot dogs etc outside. Help us to keep the site looking great and show respect for our environment by clearing your tables and picking up your rubbish. Please remind yourselves of the expectations around your conduct during break and lunch as we move to the summer arrangements. This will avoid any unnecessary out of bounds logs. Links can be found on your year group notices.

EXIT ONLY: The door indicted by the arrow is exit only.
Crowded corridors and one way systems:
A reminder that the reason we have the one way systems in place is to help make sure that everyone is safe as they move around the academy. Please make sure that you stick to the one way system. This includes using the door with the arrow in the picture as a door to come out of only. Please do not use this door to come into the building; this helps to keep people moving through the corridors smoothly. A reminder that coming in through the door labelled is "out of bounds". Students who are out of bounds are likely to receive a red behaviour log.

The Kindness Council did a whole school litter pick on Monday and collected seven full bags of litter. There was one item in particular that there were HUNDREDS of and that is the little foil top from the drinks cartons from the canteen. Please can you make an extra conscious effort to make sure these end up in a bin and don't get dropped on the floor. Let's work together to create an environment that we are proud of! - Miss Murray

Good morning Year 11
Firstly, well done on making so many choices for your masterclasses, you have confirmed our thinking that you are students who make great choices and have thought about the rest of your time during these slots in an extremely mature and focused way.
You may have seen that your timetables have now been updated with your new period 4 & 5 lessons for both weeks A & B. Before seeing me to request any changes or query any allocations, can you please ensure you read through these notices fully. I know they are long, but it is important as most of your questions will be covered here!
A few masterclasses not running:
There are a couple of masterclasses that I have not been able to run due to low/no demand. These include:
Dance practical
Computer science
GCSE PE- handball
If you had one of these in your preferences I will have allocated your next ranked masterclass where possible.
Masterclass(es) requested not allocated as requested:
If you recall from the video I shared when you made these choices , this process is much like when we allocate GCSE options, as such if you have not been allocated your preferences in rank order it is likely due to a clash between a masterclass i.e. it runs at the same time. You can see what is on when via the programme at the end of this message.
There were also some students who had requested to do 4 masterclasses, and also requested to do PE once per week...this doesn't add up! You cannot do 6 sessions in 4 periods. So I have allocated based on a judgement call, if this has been the case, please see me to discuss any changes.
Students who did not submit choices:
Despite reminders via email and in the student notices there were several students who did not manage to submit choices. As I advised in those messages and in the video, if you did not submit choices you would be allocated PE & Revision each week. Because the programme is planned around student requests and preferences, I will need to wait until all choices that students did submit have been checked by students, before I can make any changes for those who did not submit choices. Please come and see me today if you would like to request a change, and I will review if this is possible.
Making changes:
If you submitted your choices and you would like to discuss a change for any of your allocations then this must be done in person today. I will be available in the dining hall both break and lunch today to discuss any changes. Please do not email me to make any further requests to change. I will only be processing changes in person. (If you are absent today and need to discuss a change then I will accept an email request- pls state that you have been absent in your email).
Please note I will not be approving any changes to change groups based on friendship reasons. These lessons are for focused independent work. Classes have been arranged so that they are balanced in terms of numbers and to accommodate as many students' choices as possible, as a result such change requests for this reason will not be possible.
Yesterday I received a few requests to change from a masterclass to revision, can I remind you that we have designed this offer and timetable based on your requests, as such I may not be able to move you to revision if there is not a space. If anyone however would like to join a masterclass, provided there is space, then I will be happy to support this change.
The demand for a chemistry masterclass was high and we can only offer two sessions, as a result it is oversubscribed. As such this class is now closed and I will not be able to offer anyone a space who requests to join.
Both art and music run twice and have spaces available (art has limited spaces available), as I have accommodated all requests for these masterclasses, if anyone would like to have a 2nd music or art masterclass then this is possible. Please see me to change. I will process these requests on a first come first served basis.
As you may know, when I make a change on your timetable, this does not update on Go until overnight. As such it is not possible to make timetable changes for the same day. That means I will NOT be processing any changes on a Friday for sessions that day. This is because it is then not possible for teachers to do their registers accurately and amend seating plans in time.
Making changes moving forward- if you want to discuss a change at any point in the future for any reason, please do so in person. The best time to do this is during tutor. Please avoid emailing me, as often they are not easy changes to process over email. Remember I will not make same day changes, so you would need to see me on a Monday - Thursday for a change that week.
Problems with allocations:
If the following students could please see me during tutor time today in my office (or break or lunch if tutor is not possible) as there is an issue with one of your allocations and I need to speak with you to clarify:
Isabella Starkey
Krish Shinoj
Daryna Nykyforiv
Oliver Moore
Tom Middle
William Butler
Edwarde Clarke
Sophie Doran
Maths volunteering period 5, weeks A & B:
We are still processing this group of students, so if your period 5 either tomorrow or next week is blank, please check back on Friday as we are still uploading volunteering to your timetable. Thanks for your patience.
Reminders about revision sessions:
Remember you will not be permitted to leave the lesson to speak with teachers/collect any resources so please ensure you arrive prepared for your revision sessions. Teachers have been asked to use seating plans, so please be prepared to be given an allocated seat.
That's it! The full programme of what is on offer and when, where etc is available below should you wish to join any masterclasses. See you at break & lunch!
Ms Fitzgerald.

You may have heard that Mr Chappell is shaving his head for charity. This is taking place in the Asia assembly on Wednesday. Other communities who are interested will be able to watch, at their tutor's discretion, in their tutor rooms.
Haven Visit: Unfortunately due to staff absence, we have had to cancel the Haven visit scheduled for today. We are working on rescheduling this day and will keep you posted.
Masterclass & PE choices: There are still many students who have not submitted their choices for periods 4-5 Friday for next term onwards. If you have not yet submitted your choices, please do so by 3pm today. Please watch the video, review the offer of masterclasses and then make your choices via the links below. (A reminder to those that have submitted their form, you can edit your choice up until 3pm today).
Christmas Lunch: Next Wednesday (14th December) Parkes will be serving Christmas lunch. In order to help us plan, could all students who will be having Christmas lunch please indicate their preferences here. This is not an order or guarantee of your option(s) being available, this is to help us plan only! But it is important you complete it if you intended to purchase Christmas dinner on the day. Timings for Christmas lunch will be slightly longer, we will share timings for Christmas lunch closer to the day. This form will close at the end of tutor tomorrow (Tuesday), please be sure to complete in tutor.
Parkes Menus: Between Monday and Wednesday this week we might have to change the menus in Parkes. Our main extractor fan has broken and this means we have fewer ovens available. If we do have to change things, then notices will be displayed at break time. Students with allergies should speak the Parkes staff on Monday as normal.
Haven Visit: Haven are visiting us to provide non judgemental, non directive education around unplanned pregnancy. You will be in your tutor groups and supervised by your tutor for these sessions. Please see the timetable below and make sure you know what room you are in and when. It is important that you arrive on time. Your tutors will be registering you.
On Friday during your Learning about Life lessons you will be submitting your masterclass and PE choices for after Christmas. Please ensure you complete this form during the lesson. There will be a short video to watch prior to submitting the form. The remainder of the lesson will be for you to complete homework/revision. Please ensure you arrive prepared.

A note for all students about PE: Please make your way to PE as quickly as possible as you have to go the long way round. Go towards the 3G pitch and walk around the beach area to enter the halls via the New sports hall entrance. Boys will be getting changed in teaching areas in the new gym and girls will be getting changed in the old gym. Please ensure you put your clothing in your bag and close to the wall as groups will be using the halls for PE. Once you are changed please sit down and do the 'Do it now' task while we wait for everyone to finish getting changed. From this week KS3 girls are inside and boys are outside for lessons. When you leave PE, exit via the back fire doors, this keeps the one way system working and avoids overcrowding. There are 2 toilets in the corridor between the halls that students can use but please note there is NO water fountain. Please ensure you fill your water bottles ahead of your PE lessons. Thank you for your co-operation throughout the coming months as the building work begins on the new space.
