Tasters begin!
This week you will start to experience GCSE tasters in the subjects you already study. You can find when all of your tasters are by visiting the dedicated taster calendar page on the options website. Click here to check out what tasters you will have this week! (Scroll to the bottom to find your tutor group tasters).
Careers & Enterprise lesson 2: In your next lesson you will watch videos from the subjects listed below, you will then be able to opt in to any of those tasters. We will organise those tasters to fit in with your other lessons.
Business ~ Child Development ~ Ingenium
Be sure to be there! If you want to get ahead for this lesson, why don't you check out those subjects on their subject page of the options website, click the links above to find out more before you get to your lesson.
Careers & Enterprise Homework reminder!
Remember everyone has an options lesson 1 homework set, which is due by their second careers and enterprise lesson. Homework link is available below....(and on Go4 schools after your first careers and enterprise lesson for this half term). Good luck!
Well done to the many students who have completed this homework already. This is an excellent way to show your curiosity and how you can begin to feel empowered to make these choices.
Mr Atwell
Only students with library passes are permitted to use the library at break and lunchtimes. Recently, we have noticed a number of students without passes using the space, which is not fair on those who applied for and were issued passes at the beginning of the academic year.
To help us keep the library running smoothly for everyone, we will be checking passes regularly, so please make sure you have yours with you.
If you have previously been issued a library pass but have misplaced it, please email lrc@wardenpark.co.uk
with your full name and tutor group, and we will be happy to check your application.
If you do not currently have a library pass but would like one, you will be able to apply at the start of the summer term. The application link will be shared in Student Notices at that time.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping the library a calm and welcoming space for all.
Mrs Targett
On the 28th January we will have the First Film Screened on our large screen in the Assembly hall. This will be from 3.15 to 4.20.

Mr Thomas
Further to my message on Monday, you can now see the changes to some of your lessons that you have within your tutor group. This has affected some year 8 classes only.
Year 8 mixed blocks affected:
8EU2, 8AS1, 8AF1, 8AF2 and 8OC1. This now also includes 8AM1 & 8AM2. (Please note we have been able to manage without the changes originally planned for 8OC1- there are now no changes required for 8OC1). Apologies if this has caused any worries but an opportunity presented itself which meant we could leave this tutor group unchanged).
What you need to know:
For most subjects, only the lesson times or days may change.
There are some teacher changes to Geography & Learning About Life (LaL).
These changes will take effect from Monday 19 January. Any homework deadlines will be adjusted.
What are the changes?
Click here to see the summary of periods affected, you will need to find your tutor group only.
There will also be room changes in some instances, so please check your timetables from Monday! Please dispose of any existing paper copies or screenshots of your old timetables that you may have.
You will see the changes on Go 4 schools from tomorrow.
Ms Fitzgerald
I want to let you know about an upcoming change to the Key Stage 3 timetable.
Due to some staffing changes, I have needed to reorganise parts of the mixed block timetable. For some of you, this means that the order of your lessons during the week may change, but most subjects will remain the same. These changes only affect lessons that you have within your tutor group.
Year 8 mixed blocks affected:
8EU2, 8AS1, 8AF1, 8AF2 and 8OC1.
What you need to know:
For most subjects, only the lesson times or days may change.
There are some teacher changes to Geography, Character in Action (CiA) and Learning About Life (LaL).
These changes will take effect from Monday 19 January. Any homework deadlines will be adjusted.
What happens next?
I am working through the details and finalising the list of changes. I will add them here later in the week when they are ready.
Your tutor will go through the changes with you once everything is confirmed, so you will know exactly where to be and when. Your timetables will then update over the weekend.
Thank you for your patience while I make these changes.
Ms Fitzgerald
Exciting news! Planning for Character Enrichment Week in July is well underway and it is time for you to start considering the day trips that you would like to go on. Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th July will be normal school days (unless you are on an international trip). The day trips will take place on Wednesday 8th to Friday 10th July (3 days).
Your parents/carers have been sent the information about the day trips and how to sign you up on Friday last week via email. Please ask them to check their email so that you do not miss out!
To secure your place on a day trip, a Google Form AND the full payment for the trip(s) must be completed by 1st March. Your parents/carers must complete BOTH of these steps (completing the form and making the payment) to secure your place on a day trip. If only one step is completed, you will NOT have secured a place on the trip.
It is not possible to change your selections once your form has been submitted. It is essential you review the trips carefully and speak to your parents/carers about what you would like to do. Check what your friends are signing up for as you cannot chop and change your choices once you have submitted your Google Form.
If you do not want to attend any day trips, you do not have to. You can choose to do in-school activities instead. Just select this option when you complete the form with your parents/carers. The in-school activities will be advertised after Easter.
TODAY'S TUTOR TIME TASK:
Start thinking about what trips you would like to go on by visiting the relevant pages below. You should not complete the Google Form today. You need your parents/carers to do this with you and you have until the 1st March to complete the form. It is not first come first served so even if you do it in late February you will still have as much chance as someone who completes it tonight with their parents/carers.
Ms Wheeler
You will now have your new Technology lessons on your timetable for this term. In some cases whilst your project will change you may keep the same teacher. Enjoy your new projects! Be sure to check if you have a new room ahead of your lesson!
Ms Fitzgerald.
GCSE Options - This term!
This half term is a very exciting one in relation to you choosing your GCSE options. You will have heard via Careers and Enterprise lessons that the Options process will be introduced to you via these lessons. You will also have the YEAR 8 OPTIONS website that will guide you and your parent / carer through the process, and give details regarding all of the different subjects. Your teacher will share the options website with you in your first lesson.
Following the introductory lesson, you will then have the opportunity to be introduced to the 'new' subjects (that you have not already studied) in your second Careers and enterprise lesson, and then sign up to a range of taster lessons. Your first lesson will be delivered by either Mr Atwell or Ms Fitzgerald.
There will also be taster lessons in all option subjects this half term, so it is vital that you are in school every day so that you don't miss out.
Other dates for your diary include Virtual parent's evening on Thursday 22nd January, and Options Evening on Thursday 5th February.
The final Careers and Enterprise lesson of this half term will guide you through the process of submitting your option choices, with you submitting draft choices which are then emailed home. The deadline for you submitting your final choices is Friday 27th February.
We are looking forward to working with you throughout this half term on this very important aspect of your education! Mr Atwell & Ms Fitzgerald.
Similarly to the sessions you had in Year 7, your Computer Science curriculum in Year 8 will be delivered in intensive sessions by our Computer Science experts.
The first session of Year 8 will cover:
Research and evaluate the different hardware components of a computer to maximise performance
Understand the AND, OR and NOT logic gates and their accompanying truth tables
Compare and analyse different images by their resolution, colour depth and file size
See the image to the right/below for your session details after half term.
Enjoyment of school forms a vital part of you wanting to come in, engage with lessons and ultimately, succeed when you take your GCSEs and move on.
We would like to know a bit more about how much you enjoy / have enjoyed school over the years, and also what could make it even better. Please complete the questions below to help us with this.
Mr Atwell.
GCSE Options - after Christmas!
A reminder that the Year 8 options period begins next term...attendance to every lesson is of course always important, for next half term this is especially true, be sure you attend every lesson so as not to miss out on your tasters! Your first careers and enterprise lesson will be an introduction to your GCSE options, it will be delivered by either Mr Atwell or Ms Fitzgerald. We look forward to working with you throughout the next half term! Ms Fitzgerald & Mr Atwell😀
£20 Challenge Update: The Empire Building Begins!
The Business and Enterprise Department is thrilled to announce the successful selection of the first winner of the £20 Challenge!
This winning team has already started work on building their business empire. More details about this team and their exciting venture will follow soon!
We received a phenomenal 58 fully formed well designed business plans some with large teams of students working collaboratively on each one — a massive congratulations to everyone who demonstrated their entrepreneurial spirit and submitted an entry!
From this strong field, we simply couldn't ignore three other outstanding business proposals that also made a very strong case for the investment.
We have therefore decided to narrow the competition down to 3 more top proposals and are now exploring the exciting idea of extending the investment to two businesses instead of just one!
To help us make the final decision between these three other proposals, we are now looking for a "proof of concept" from these contenders to showcase an example of their products. This has now been requested so theses teams know who they are!!
Once product samples have been handed in; focus groups and feedback sessions will be organized in order to gather the final data needed to make a decision so stay tuned for the announcement of a potential second investment opportunity and the final winning business (or businesses) of the £20 Challenge 2025/26!!!
Thank you, Business and Enterprise Dept.
Temporary Library Closure - Thursday 11 December
The Library will be closed for Break and Lunch 1 on Thursday due to Year 11 Mock Interviews taking place. Apologies for the inconvenience. Mrs Targett.
We asked you to come up with a brilliant business idea using £20 investment from us (which we managed to find down the back of the sofa in the staff room) and you didn't just meet the challenge — you practically launched a mini-startup frenzy!
Over 50 fantastic business ideas have landed on our desks, most with large groups of students involved in each team. We hope your first board meetings didn't end in arguments over who gets to keep the profits!!!
Now our hard work begins...The Business Department will be locking themselves in a room, fuelled by questionable snacks, to meticulously sort through all your incredible submissions and select the final, ultimate winner!
Stay tuned—you'll hear from us soon! (And yes, we'll try to stop ourselves from stealing your ideas and getting rich :))
Good luck!
The Business Department
Please watch this video today. This is a compulsory activity that will prepare you for your Hampton Court trip this week.
On Monday 17th November all year 8 students will be watching a play organised by the History department in the assembly hall during either period 1 or period 2. The 50 minute play is being performed by a drama company and it is about a person called Sophia Duleep Singh, who becomes a famous Suffragette. She is a remarkable character and you will learn more about her in your history lessons later this year.
'1' tutor groups will be watching the play during period 1. Go to period 1 as normal, and your teacher will bring you down to the assembly hall. If you are in 8EU1 then you can stay in the hall after your assembly that morning.
'2' tutor groups will be watching the play during period 2. Go to your period 2 lesson as normal and your teacher will bring you down to the assembly hall.
Expectations of students:
- Arrive promptly and calmly in exemplary uniform.
- Sit in your tutor groups, in alphabetical order as you would for assembly.
- Show respect to the performers by settling quickly and listening carefully.
- Take part! There are elements of the play that are interactive, so be prepared to participate.
A letter has gone home to your parents about this performance and you also have a history homework task to introduce you to Sophia Duleep Singh and some of the issues surrounding the play.
Mr. Murray
A few updates about break and lunch as the fields are now closed for the winter months:
Football can still be played, but only on the courts. Please remember that only students playing football should be on the courts.
Year 7 – you’ll use the left-hand side of the courts. (Car park side)
Year 8 – you’ll use the right-hand side. (Field side)
Stay within your year group areas so everyone can enjoy their break safely.
The Assembly Hall is a calm space – no running or playfighting. Avoid any rough play behaviour logs!
Fast passes will be out this week. Remember to follow the Fast Pass queue system.
If you’re unsure how it works, you can watch the short video linked to the right.
The stairway behind the Assembly Hall must remain clear at all times. It is not for students to gather. There should be no gathering on the stairs behind the hall under any circumstances.
The pathway to the courts is to be used only to access the courts. The grass area immediately outside the Assembly Hall is now out of bounds.
Keep your hands to yourself – any rough play (pushing, bumping, playfighting, etc.) will result in a red 'rough play' log.
Please don’t gather in the foyer or corridor areas. Stay either in the hall, the canopy areas or the courts.
Let’s all make sure break and lunch are safe, calm, and enjoyable for everyone.
Ms Fitzgerald.
Unfortunately the Library will be closed for the whole week commencing Monday 3 November, this is due to MFL mock exams taking place. Apologies for the inconvenience this causes.
On Friday, November 7th, during Period 1, you will be attending a special assembly delivered by Sussex Police officers on the important topic of Drugs.
You must line up in the covered area outside the Assembly Hall whilst Year 9 assembly completes and files out of the hall.
This session is part of your Health and Wellbeing curriculum and is designed to help you make safe, and make informed choices as you get older.
What you will learn about:
Different Types of Drugs: What illegal drugs are and how they can affect your health and body.
The Law: The serious legal consequences of possessing, using, or supplying drugs.
Real-life Risks: The personal and social risks of drug use, including how it can affect your friendships, family, health, and future education or career.
Staying Safe: Where to go for support and advice if you're ever concerned about drugs, or if you feel pressure from others.
Police officers will share their real-life experiences to help you understand the community impact of drug misuse. The goal is to help you build the awareness, confidence, and resilience needed to think critically about risk-taking behaviour and always stay on the right side of the law.
Please arrive at the assembly hall promptly for Period 1. You will sit in tutor groups.
Ms Easton.

We are delighted to announce that we are looking to run an 'Arts and Crafts Club' on a Tuesday from 3.10-4.10pm. The club will begin on Tuesday 4th November (after October half term) and will run for 10 weeks (10 sessions). The club is to be run by an outside organisation called 'The Creation Station' and therefore there is a small cost for this club.
If you would like to see a breakdown of what you would be learning each week, please see these slides here or pictured. You will study a different artist each week and will be able to experiment with fabric, sewing, drawing, painting, clay and much more!
If you would like to be part of this club, please complete this form here now. Your parents will need to pay for you to attend so I will be in contact with them to check that they are willing to do so.
Miss Wheeler
Your tutor will now read through all of the clubs available for this Autumn term (up until Xmas holidays). We would like all students to attend a school club this year. Remember that attending clubs is not just an opportunity to make new friends but is also valid experience to write about on college applications and to talk about at college interviews. Which one will you try? Click the links below to review what's on offer!
Ms Wheeler
Your tutor will now review and explore this webpage with you so that you can find out more about the trip! If you would like to sign up for this trip, your parents/carers need to complete the sign up form on the webpage and make a payment by 1st October- this is quite soon so make sure you have a chat with them tonight!
If you have already signed up for Liddington and want to change your mind- no problem. This can be arranged. Just get your parents/carers to read last weeks newsletter about how to do this.
A gentle reminder that you need to get your parents/carers to sign up for residential trips by this Wednesday.
To view information about our residential trips, please see the Enrichment Trips App on your iPad.
Ms Wheeler
Year 8 will attend a Stand Against Violence workshop on Knife Crime on Monday 6th October during Period 2.
Please go straight to the Assembly Hall at the start of Period 2 instead of your normal lesson.
Please sit in your tutor groups in register order. Staff will meet you there and complete the register.
Ms Easton.
Calling all budding engineers! This year's Mid Sussex STEM challenge is to build a train powered by potential energy. I am looking for a team of 6-8 students to take part in the challenge against other local schools. You will have until June for designing, building and testing your train before the big competition day where you will pit your train against what the other teams have built. The link below has some more information about last years challenge so you can see what you have to look forward to.
Interested? Come to I3 on Weds 24th of September for more information - Ms O'Brien
It is often necessary to make some timetable changes throughout the year to ensure that we are able to keep the very best teachers in classes. This usually happens as a result of longer-term teacher absence.
For some tutor groups, this has meant staffing and timetable changes. This could mean that a teacher has changed or that the placement of a lesson has moved. In Year 7, the affected tutor groups are listed below.
8AM2
8OC2
The changes are summarised here.
These changes take effect from today. Please destroy/delete any existing screenshots or paper copies of your timetable. Remember, you can always access the most up-to-date version by checking your calendar or Go 4 Schools on your iPad.
Ms Fitzgerald.
Please remember to hang up your bags when you use the assembly hall at break / lunch - leaving them on the floor can lead to bags getting wet or the contents, including iPads, getting damaged - this can end up being very expensive. There are new hooks closer to the tennis courts - please use these if the other ones are full.
Please remember also that you can eat packed lunches and 'grab and go' food in the outside eating areas. If you are buying the main meal on a plate, it must stay in the assembly hall. Thank you, Mr Atwell
Please be aware that trips are being launched in assemblies this week. If you are not present in an assembly, you will miss the launch of the trip. To ensure you have all the details, please make sure that you and your parents/carers read the newsletter this Friday, as it will include information about all the trips being launched this week.
As a guide:
Year 7 will have a residential
Year 8 will have a residential to PGL in Liddington.
Year 9 will have the opportunity to go to Amsterdam, France, or Spain (MFL trips are for MFL students only), or Poland.
If you are not in assembly for any reason, please make sure your parents/carers read the newsletter, which will be emailed out as usual this Friday, so you do not miss out on these opportunities.
Thank you,
Ms Wheeler
