Student notices...released every Monday.
Our Christmas lunch will be served on Wednesday 17 December, but this year you must pre-order if you would like to have it. The meal is pictured right.
Important information:
Your parent/carer needs to place the order for you.
Please speak with them today so they can decide and complete the form. They will receive a letter home during the course of today. The letter will also shortly be available on the letters page, the letter will contain a link to the order form.
If you receive Free School Meals, you can use your allowance for the Christmas meal — but you still need to pre-order.
Other food options will be available on the day- the Christmas meal replaces the dish of the day.
The Christmas meal is slightly more expensive than the normal meal deal, so families will need to make sure you have enough money on your account if you are not in receipt of free school meals.
Please remind your parent/carer to complete the order as soon as possible.
Orders must be received by 9am, Monday 8th December- it will not be possible to accept any orders after this time.
We’re looking forward to a festive day! 🎅
Take a look below at two important events coming up for the Christmas period.
Start bringing in donations for our Annual Christmas Hampers, which we then deliver to vulnerable members of our community.
Please build the hamper together as a tutor group. All donations should be in by 10th December.
On the last day of term, wear your best Christmas jumper to support our school charity.
£1 donation – available soon on ParentPay, or bring cash on the day.
All other aspects of uniform must be maintained.
The 3G pitch will be closed at break and lunchtime on Tuesday while maintenance work takes place.
Please use the usual alternative spaces during this time.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Tuesday 2nd December – Period 1: There will be a rehearsal in Mu1 for the Orchestra and Choir in preparation for the senior citizens’ event on Friday.
Please go straight to Mu1 at the start of Period 1. Do not attend your Period 1 lesson.
Mr Bayliss.
Remember, your Next Step booklet is your guide to fantastic progress. It should be out on your desk in every lesson. If you forget your booklet, please ask your tutor for a purple slip to avoid receiving a behaviour log from teachers during that day’s lessons.
If you have completed your Next Step booklet with clear, well-organised advice, your teacher may award you a Star Student for taking responsibility for your learning.

Sussex Police have asked us to share their annual survey with you. It should only take you a few minutes to complete, so when you get a spare moment please complete this so that your views are heard.
Sussex Police say "The purpose of the survey is to collect the voice of children and young people from around the county so that chief officers gain a greater understanding of how safe those young people feel in their communities, and what work/support we can put in place to improve this".
Click here to access the survey.
If you need to leave school early for an appointment, things will work a little differently from today.
Once your community receives a message from your parent or carer confirming your appointment, they will add the time you need to leave to the G4S register. When it’s time to go, just remind your teacher — they will check G4S — and then you must go to Reception.
Reception will double-check your appointment and sign you out. After that, you can leave the school site.
You no longer need to collect a slip from your community team.
Please remember: do not leave the site without going through Reception first.
Mr Sorrell.
Please would you take the short time to complete the following HPQ questionnaires. Your answers will provide information that is hugely beneficial to the students' projects by offering crucial reflective evidence for their final submissions.
Please use the links below to open the questionnaires:
Should Children Be Taught To Code Before They Learn To Write Essays?
What role does sports (team or individual) play on your physical and mental health?
How are cosmetic brands marketing to target a teenage audience?
We have a growing collection of lost property, particularly coats and blazers. If you are missing anything, please check at school services to see if we have it - many items have been moved into the office as space was limited outside, so please knock. Please also remember to put names in / on all items so that they can be returned to you if handed in.
Thank you, Mr Atwell.
As a school, we do not permit students to wear hoodies at any time, including inside school buildings, on the school grounds, or when travelling to and from school.
As we head into the colder weather, please ensure you have a suitable coat to wear if needed.
If you are seen wearing a hoodie, it will be stored in your Community Office and may need to be collected by your parents or carers.
Mr Kelly.
We’ve been asked by the NHS to share an important health message with you. Testicular torsion is a condition where a testicle can twist, and it can happen at any age. It can be very serious if it isn’t treated quickly, so it’s important to know what to do.
If you ever feel strong or ongoing pain or discomfort in that area, please get help straight away. If you’re at home, talk to your parents or another trusted adult. If you’re in school, come to the medical room. There’s no need to feel embarrassed — this is actually more common than you might think, and getting help early really matters.
If this isn’t treated soon enough, there is a real risk of losing a testicle, which is why acting quickly is so important.
Younger students will learn more about what signs to look out for in upcoming Health and Wellbeing lessons, so you’ll be supported with clear information.
Please click here for further information.

This week, I will be leading a session that introduces what cryptocurrency is, explores the risks and rewards of using it, and helps you consider the environmental and ethical issues behind digital money.

Black History Month is a time to recognise and celebrate the achievements, stories, and contributions of Black people throughout history. It helps us learn about individuals and communities whose impact has often been overlooked or forgotten.
In the UK, it’s also a chance to explore how Black history is part of British history, not separate from it.
This week, you’ll be having an assembly to find out more about this event. There will also be a tutor group quiz, as well as a quiz for you to complete individually.
This will involve you searching for clues put up in different departments around the school.

Fundraising for Children in Need 2025 has officially begun! Please make sure you collect sponsorships using the sponsorship form shared on your tutor group’s Google Classroom. You could ask family, friends, neighbours, or even local businesses to sponsor you.
This year, your target to raise is £25 each to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Children in Need. Can you rise to the challenge of “Power Down for Pudsey” on Friday 7th November and go without screens (outside of school) for 25 hours!?
All sponsorship money can be brought into your Community Offices at any time, but the final deadline for collections is Wednesday 15th November at 4pm. Funds can also be paid through ParentPay — just make sure your fundraising efforts are submitted to your correct Community.
This is a friendly competition to see which Community can raise the most money for Children in Need, so get creative, get involved, and start your fundraising now! Let’s make a real difference together!

Teachers will often ask you to use a mini whiteboard app on your iPad. This is so that they can see what you have learnt and whether there are any gaps in your knowledge that they need to help you fill.
The quickest and most effective way to do this is to use notes on your iPad. Look at the slide slides here to find out how.
Thank you, Ms Simmons.
Our representatives will be meeting this week to discuss the following; please talk about the points below so that your rep can feedback to the senior team.

Why is discriminatory behaviour (e.g. based on race, gender, disability, religion, or appearance) especially harmful, and do you witness any of this in school?
What should someone do if they experience or witness unkind or discriminatory behaviour at school?

If your tutor group does not have a rep please pass names to Mr Atwell, or feedback to the senior team / student ambassadors in Years 10 & 11.

A massive thank you to all the students who came along to support the Charity Football Match! You were all fantastic — it was wonderful to see so many of you cheering on your teachers and celebrating their sporting prowess.
With your help, we’ve raised over £1,590 for your chosen charity, Holbrook Animal Rescue.
A big shout-out to the senior team for your brilliant efforts — from baking the cakes that fuelled our amazing audience to helping organise the event itself.
Now, for the moment you’ve all been waiting for — the results!

Are you ready to take control of your grades and smash your learning goals? It all starts with knowing exactly what to do next.
Next week in assembly, you’ll get your new Next Step Booklet. This isn't just another thing to stick in your bag—it's your personalised toolkit for success. It's designed to help you track what you need to do to make serious progress in every single one of your subjects.
To make sure you get the most out of it, here’s your mission:
Listen to your teachers! They'll guide you on what to write in your booklet for each subject
Bring your booklet with you every day. Think of it as your passport to progress.
Keep it on your desk during all your lessons. This will help you stay focused on your next steps.
Get ready to see the difference this makes. We'll have even more tips for you in next week's assembly.
Thank you, Ms Simmons.
Please take the time to remind yourself of the key points from assembly last week that introduced the new 'Late Gate' system.
Being late to school and lessons will have a significant negative impact on your learning and progress.
Mr Kelly.
Through UK Fungus Day, the British Mycological Society shares the importance of fungi to our lives and aims to inspire others to help preserve our native fungi and improve our scientific knowledge of these unique and remarkable organisms.

Art - A drawing or photo of Fungi.
Science - Your favourite Fungi facts, presented in a visually pleasing way.

Unfortunately due to staffing, it will be necessary to close School Services from Monday 29th September - Friday 10th October. We hope to reopen week beginning Monday 13th October.
Before the closure:
Please collect anything you have stored in the school services.
Lost property boxes will be installed outside school services and in PE for any items left behind.
Make sure your parent pay account has enough funds to cover your meals during this time.
Whilst School Services is closed, Communities will be your first point of contact for any support you may need.
Thank you for your cooperation and we apologise for the inconvenience!
As you will have seen, over the summer, we installed new magnetic doors and electric gates at the front of school. Here’s how they will work to keep everyone safe.
Arriving in the Morning
Doors open at 8:20am. Before this time, you cannot get into the building unless there is an emergency. If you have a meeting with a member of staff enter via reception and if you are attending a PE club enter via the Sports hall entrance where a member of the PE department will let you in.
You may come in from 8:20am if you need to use the main building toilets only, attend a school club, or visit the snack shack.
Forcing the doors before 8:20am will lead to a sanction. Please note their is CCTV covering each external door.
At 8:35am, everyone can come inside and go straight to their tutor base.
At 8:45am, the big green double gates will be locked. After this time, you must come in through the electric pedestrian gate. Staff will be there to record late arrivals. There will be more details on this to follow in assemblies this week.
Leaving After School
The big green double gates will be locked after the last bus leaves (around 3:30pm).
If you leave between 3:30pm and 4:45pm, use the pedestrian gate by pressing the bell — reception will unlock it for you.
External doors will be locked at 5:10pm. Make sure you leave by then if you are at a club or twilight lesson.
If you come back from a fixture or event after 5:10pm, your teacher will open the pedestrian gate for you — reception will be closed.
A Final Reminder
Students are not allowed on site outside of school hours unless for an organised event or club. This includes the 3G pitch and fields. If you are found on site without permission, there will be serious sanctions.
Mr Sorrell.
Our Character for Learning descriptors have changed slightly. Your tutor will now read through the updated descriptors with you.
The main change is that you cannot achieve a grade without first meeting the homework expectation linked to that grade. In other words, you cannot be recognised as a Consistent Learner unless you have missed no more than one homework deadline.
This makes completing homework even more important for your Character for Learning.
There is lots of support available to help you complete homework. If you feel you are struggling, please ask your class teachers—they are here to help.
Starting this Friday, we have 3 exciting competitions which you can enter including cake baking and competing against teachers and students on Languagenut. For more details and deadlines, please click here to see the details
You will also learn how to say hello and goodbye in 5 languages, one each day from this Friday and you will use this language to greet and say goodbye to your teachers throughout next week!
Competitions open to ALL students!

As the Art rooms have recently been refurbished, we have upgraded their names to include ‘Studio’. The Art rooms are now labelled AS1, AS2 and AS3 (i.e. Art Studio 1, Art Studio 2, etc.). Updated signage will follow in due course.
PE practical lessons will shortly have practical spaces displayed on students’ and staff timetables. The following codes will be used for this term:
3G1, 3G2, 3G3: Pitches 1–3 on the 3G
TC1, TC2, TC3: Tennis Courts
BC1: Basketball Courts
OSH1, OSH2: Old Sports Hall (smaller space)

This will help staff locate students during practical lessons and students locate their classes should they arrive after the lesson has started for example.
Internal Student Meeting Rooms: There is now an additional internal meeting room, 1–1 Meeting Room C. This is located in the History block. Please note, this space also serves as the Multi-Faith Prayer Room every day at lunchtime (pictured right).

Water Fountains
There are now new bottle-filling stations in both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 areas!
KS3 students – your water fountain is by the entrance to the Additional Learning Area.
KS4 students – yours is by the middle entrance to Ferguson.
Remember: bring your water bottles with you – no need to head into Parkes or the quad anymore just for water during break and lunch. A rmeinder that the quad is ut of bounds for all year groups during break and lunch.
Snack Shack & Breakfast
The Snack Shack will still be serving breakfast. Right now, it’s a bit flooded, so food is being sold inside Parkes instead.
Once you’ve got your food/drink, please take it outside to the Snack Shack area to eat.
Year 9 only
As you move into the Key Stage 4 area, watch today’s the video below (start from 2:30). It’s last year’s video but it shows you how to queue and where football happens in your new space. This will help you settle in quickly – enjoy your new area!
Year 8 only
Your food servery area has moved inside the assembly hall, but your queueing system stays the same. Please be patient while everyone gets used to the new layout – staff will be there to guide you.
You’ll also be excited to see a new canopy area at the front of the school. Please remember that any food served on plates or in bowls must stay inside the dining hall. All other food, including packed lunches, can be taken outside into the new canopy space.
Years 9–11 Quiet Space at Lunch
While there continue to be some changes to rooming, the Quiet Space for Lunch 1 will be open from Monday. Full details will be shared in Monday’s notices.
Ms Fitzgerald😀
Students in Years 9 - 11 have access to Zone b (DINING HALL END) at break and lunch. Please WATCH THE VIDEO (from 2.30) TO find out about the expectations we have of students to ensure you all have an enjoyable break and lunch!
Over the summer, our site team have been busy making some fantastic improvements – you’ll be especially excited to see our brand-new Art and Music rooms!
Art: With the upgrade to the Art spaces, the room labels have also changed. On your timetables and on the signage, you’ll now see labels such as AS1 – Art Studio 1, AS2 - Art Studio 2 etc.
Music: The Music room names will stay the same for now.
PE: You’ll start to notice specific location labels for your practical PE lessons. These will show exactly which space your lesson is in, although you still need to go to the changing rooms first!
Multi-Faith Prayer Room: There is now a dedicated space for the Multi-Faith Prayer Room available every day. See the image to the right for details.
Ms Fitzgerald😀
As you will have noticed, we have improved the security of the school site by increasing the number of magnetic door locks. These allow us to protect students, staff, and the site by locking doors when required.
Please note that, very shortly, all external doors will remain locked in the mornings until 8.20am. As before, students are not permitted into the building until 8.40am and must gather in the playgrounds or under the shelters. You may access the toilets and library from 8.20am if needed, but gathering inside is not permitted.
Any students who need access any other part of the school before 8.20am may only do so by prior arrangement with a member of staff, who will supervise them during this time.

Some reminders to help ensure a better experience for everyone:
If you are unsure whether you have enough money on your account, please ask the till staff to check your balance before picking up food. This will help reduce waste.
Please make sure you have your card with you, as this helps the queues move more quickly.
