Why should STUDENTS choose GCSE PE?

If they love participating in numerous sports and would like to pursue a career in sport in the future. The course builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills established in Key Stage 3 PE. It will give students exciting opportunities to be involved in a number of different physical activities, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Students can perform in one or all of the following roles: player/participant; leader or official. Students should have an interest in PE and Sport, enjoy being active and appreciate the benefits of keeping fit and healthy. In our videos below you can see students being assessed buy visiting moderators in their practical performance, in these videos we have football, a students golf assessment and some drills in the roles of participants.

What will STUDENTS need to be successful in this course?

    • Have a keen interest in sport and recreation and always look forward to PE lessons;

    • Take part in sport/recreation outside of class time in a number of different activities;

    • Want to follow a course that develops knowledge and understanding through practical involvement;

    • Are interested in the benefits of sport and exercise;

    • Aim to improve personal performance in a range of sports roles.

This course is suitable for students of all abilities. Students are well supported and there are always 1, 2 & 3 chilli activities to cater for all abilities and help students to choose the appropriate level of challenge. If they do not participate in sports at present, either at Warden Park Academy or outside of school, they are encouraged to speak to the PE department about what they can join now, so they can begin to build up skills to help them when they begin the GCSE qualification.


In the build up to the exam we offer morning 1-1 catch up sessions, 1-1 after school sessions and we switch the focus from practical lessons in order to concentrate on exam revision.

2. Socio-cultural influences and well being in physical activity and sport

3. Practical Performance in physical activity and sport, this includes assessments in progressive drills, full context. Students will also nee to complete an analysis and evaluation to bring about improvement in one activity.

3 activities: 1 team, 1 individual, 1 free choice- 40%
