During unit 1, we did a lot of acting and scene analyzing. We had the option to have both solo scene work and also work in groups. I chose to have one in both.
A student confesses to cheating on a test out of panic and regret. They explain that they studied but blanked out during the test, and in a desperate moment, looked at their notes. Now they feel guilty and fear the consequences. Especially disappointing their parents and beg for a chance to make it right without involving them.
Max, Pete, and Gil find themselves in a mysterious, featureless waiting room with no clear purpose or exit. As they interact, they realize they all have a connection to an insurance salesman named Ralph. The scene explores themes of uncertainty, shared experiences, and the search for meaning.
During unit 2, we got to read a lot of detective fiction stories, go into deep dives on what goes on in detective fiction stories and write our own detective fiction stories for our final.
Mary Sutherland visits Sherlock Holmes, distressed because her fiancé, Hosmer Angel, disappeared on the day of their wedding. She tells Holmes that Hosmer was shy, wore tinted glasses, and only communicated with her through typewritten letters. Holmes quickly becomes suspicious and investigates. He deduces that Hosmer Angel never existed as a real person. He concludes that Mary's stepfather, Mr. James Windibank, invented the identity of Hosmer Angel to keep her from marrying and leaving home because if she moved out, he would lose access to her income. Holmes exposes the deception but decides not to tell Mary the full truth, believing she would not accept it.
Hercule Poirot is called upon to solve the mysterious disappearance of a European prime minister who has been kidnapped. The case is urgent and politically sensitive, as the prime minister's absence threatens national stability. Poirot uses his brilliant detective skills, careful observation, and psychological insight to uncover the truth behind the kidnapping. Through clever deduction, he identifies the mastermind behind the crime and helps secure the prime minister’s safe return.
For our final project, we were asked to write our own detective story. We had to create an original mystery with interesting characters, clues, and a suspenseful plot. We had build a case, plant hints, and craft a satisfying solution that ties everything together. The goal was to practice creative writing skills while exploring how detectives solve crimes through observation, reasoning, and deduction.
My favorite part of this year was being able to study detective fiction and being able to write my own detective fiction. My advice for the people coming to set 6 next year is to just keep up on the homework and listen to Tr. Tree.
