This arrangement was simpler as there was less measuring involved. All flowers simply cut and inserted close to the sponge's surface. This arrangement can be placed vertically alongside other similar carpet arrangements to create a decorative plant wall.
Plants/materials used:
Gerbera
Carnation
Pom pom (2 types)
Statice
Yellow palm
Tea leaves
Cordyline
Lily
Hypericum
White phoenix
Metal wire
Skills used:
Cutting
Spreading of petals
Staking
Braiding of palm leaflets (Cashew)
Use of satay stick for poking holes
Process:
Wrap the sides of the sponge with Cordyline leaves
Insert the Lily flower at one corner of the sponge
Insert 2 Gerberas, one slightly overlapping the other
Insert carnations and Hypericum around the Lily
Add Statice diagonally across the sponge
Place Pom poms below or near Gerbera and in the corners of the sponge. Use a satay stick to poke holes if the stems are too weak.
Divide and insert the tea leaves and White phoenix into the gaps on the sponge
Add Golden Phoenix diagonal corners of the sponge, with the tips facing upwards
Cut and divide the Yellow palm into its leaflets and insert it into the corner of the sponge, near the Lily
Braid the yellow palm leaflets until it resembles a cashew nut and insert it into the arrangement.
Spray the flowers with water to keep them fresh
Gerbera - innocence/purity
Lily - (most often associated with funerals) soul of the departed has received restored innocence after death.
White pompom/flowers - long-lasting, joy
Purple pompom - Wish for wellness
Carnation - deep affection, love
Hypericum - Inspiration and cheerfulness (known for healing properties to fight depression and anxiety, associated with good health)
This arrangement is unlike others we have done as it is supposed to have flowers that are very close to the sponge surface. The Lily, Gerbera, and Carnations, being the bigger flowers that are also brightly coloured, are the focal parts of the arrangement. The pink Hypericum compliment the pink shades of the Lily. The white and purple Pom poms were placed in a diagonal pattern, so that the colours would be spread amongst the arrangement evenly. Meanwhile, the White Phoenix helps fill up the gaps on the sponge. They are placed next to the white Pom poms to compliment their colour. Since, the White Phoenix flowers are smaller than the white Pom poms, they add depth and dimension to the arrangement. The yellow carnations that have a pink edge, along with the other pink tones in this arrangement, makes this arrangement look full of warmth and love. The green tea leaves add a sense of freshness to the arrangement, while the Golden Phoenix at the corners helps to showcase the arrangement. Lastly, the Yellow palm is braided to resemble the shape of a Cashew nut and used as a finishing piece in this arrangement, while showing the hand skills learnt in floristry.
I feel that since this arrangement is known as a 'carpet' arrangement, due to how close the flowers are to the sponge, multiple carpet arrangements can be placed next to each other to form a wall of flowers. This green wall can be used in museums or buildings for display and aesthetic uses, showcasing the beauty and skills of floristry and invite creativity and inspiration to people's minds.
