As we are exploring different arrangement shapes and styles, we learnt how to do an L-shaped arrangement. This was also quite challenging as our placement of flowers had to complement the L-shape. I named his arrangement 'Swan' as i find it particularly elegant due to the curves of the coconut leaves and how the uneven heights between the Carnations the Pompoms makes the arrangement look very natural
Plants used:
Anthurium
Pompom
Carnation
Golden Phoenix
Murraya
Rumohra
Coconut leaves
Skills used:
Design measurement
Cutting
Colour coordination
Spreading petals of flowers
Removing petals
Process: Insert 2 Anthuriums vertical and one sideways to create the basic L-shape. Cut the first stalk of Carnation and insert it next to the vertical Anthuriums. Cut the subsequent stalks insert one next to the vertical stalk and the other pointing slightly outwards. Then, cut and insert the large stalk of Murraya behind the vertical stalks. Cut up the remaining Murraya and Rumohra into smaller stalks and insert them at the bottom layer of the floral sponge to fill up the empty spaces on the sponge.
After that insert the white Pompom around the purple carnation as this contrast in colour will compliment each other and draw attention to that area. Insert the maroon pompoms around the white ones. Subsequently, place the cluster of Pompoms into the gaps between the carnations. Place the Golden Phoenix behind the tall, vertical Anthurium and carnations.
Bend the coconut leaves in the correct direction. Trim and pull the bottom end of the leaves then insert it across the arrangement. Finally, spray water onto the flower arrangement to keep the flowers fresh.
White pompom/flowers - long-lasting, joy
Purple pompom - Wish for wellness
Carnation - deep affection, love
Anthurium - Hospitality, warmth
The most interesting part of this arrangement is the Anthuriums as they have a heart-shaped spathe that is pink and very elegant. The 3 Anthuriums formed the reverse 'L' shape of the arrangement. The light pink, red and purple carnations help match the colour tones of the maroon and purple pom poms. These carnations and Pom poms were taller than the other flowers and thus, added height to the arrangement. The white Pom pom added at the lower apart of the arrangement added contrast to the carnations and other Po poms at the top. This brings focus to the lower part of the arrangement, letting people notice the details of the foliage, like how the Murraya leaves are placed around the Pom poms to fill up the gaps, letting the Pom poms stand out. To match the green foliage at the bottom, the Golden Phoenix was added behind the Anthuriums. Lastly, the curved pieces of Coconut leaves inserted at the right side of the arrangement help to prevent the mid-section of the arrangement from appearing too bare, adding more dimension to the vertically tall arrangement.
Overall, i think this arrangement can be used in graduation ceremonies as it represents good wishes and cheerfulness. Graduations are held when someone completes a course or journey (eg. school). This also means many more opportunities are to come and so, well wishes are sent to the person in hopes that he or she has a smooth journey in future. Hence, this arrangement is very suitable.
