In recent lessons, we have been exploring different arrangement shapes. In this arrangement, we learnt how to make a floral arrangement of a crescent shape. We were shown 6 different crescent arrangements and each of us chose one to follow. I chose to do arrangement 1. This particular arrangement was named 'Nightingale' as it has a crescent shape which make mes think of the moon at night, when the nightingale usually sings.

Process: Firstly, we removed the thorns and netting from the rose stalks and rose petals, respectively. Next, we removed the outer few petals of the rose that look withered. Then we cut the first rose stalk according to the sum of the height and width of the container. The next rose stalk was cut according to the length between below the petal and the end of the stalk, of the rose stalk that was cut before, except for the last few stalks. The longest stalk was inserted at the top left corner of the sponge. The second longest stalk was inserted at the right side of the sponge, followed by the third and fourth longest stalk that was placed next to each other at the bottom left corner of the sponge. Afterwards, the remaining rose stalks were inserted in some of the spaces left on the sponge. Then, the Rumohra and Yellow Palm leaves were cut and mainly placed at the lower part of the sponge. Others were placed among the roses and larger Rumohra leaves were placed behind the longer stalks for support. Next, the Eustoma, Polyscia, Baby Breath and Dusty Miller were placed among the roses to further fill up the empty spaces on the sponge. Water was then sprayed to keep the flowers fresh. To finish the look, i added a red french ribbon.
Carnation - deep affection, love
Roses - Enduring passion
Eustoma - Longevity, peace, joy
This arrangement is supposed to resemble a crescent shape. This makes me think of the moon and hence, the night atmosphere. The deep red roses fit the night atmosphere and the white Eustomas stand out. I like this contrast because the white Eustomas makes me think of moonlight shining through the night sky onto the red roses. The Yellow palm leaflets that stick out amongst the roses and Eustomas depict the light rays from the moon, shining outwards. The Baby's breath, although blue, reminds me of the stars crowding the sky. To make this arrangement look more wild and natural, the Rumohra and yellow palm leaflets stick out from the arrangement. Also, this helps to fill out the gaps on the floral sponge and adds detail. The dark red ribbon matched the colour of the red roses, completing its look. Because this arrangement reminds me of the night atmosphere, it reminds me of serenity and peace and calmness. It sparks a lot of imagination and thought in me.
Since this arrangement makes me think of serenity and peace or the night atmosphere, i feel that this arrangement can be used for any events that are held from evening to night, when the sun sets. Because this arrangement sparks a lot of imagination in me, i feel that it could also be used as a prop in a skit scene that happens during the night as this arrangement really emphasises the night theme.
