This is our final assessment for the module. I did a symmetrical triangle arrangement as we were encouraged to. As this type of arrangement was practised before, it was easier to do this time and i could apply the skills i learnt before, into this assessment.
Plants/materials used:
Gerbera
Pompom
Statice
Carnations
Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana'
Rumohra
Dracaena godseffiana (Japanese Bamboo leaves)
Onion grass
Murraya
Ribbon
Basket
Skills used:
Design measurement
Cutting
Multi-use of flower's plastic covering
Weaving (Onion grass)
French ribbon
Curling of ribbon ends
Spreading of petals
Stapling of leaves
Process:
Decorate the basket handle by twisting the ribbons around it and add 2 French ribbons to the corners of the handles
Insert the tallest Gerbera (height of sponge + width of basket)
Insert 2nd Gerbera below
Insert 3rd and 4th Gerbera into the left and right side of the previous Gerbera, facing diagonally outwards
Insert the 5th Gerbera under the 2nd one, facing upwards
Cover the bottom layer of the sponge with Rumohra leaves
Place the Carnations next to the Gerberas
Cut the smaller Pompom flowers and insert them in between the shorter Gerberas
Insert the larger clusters of Pompom flowers amongst the taller Gerberas
Cut and insert the Statice around the arrangement to create a 'water drop' effect
Insert the small white flowers amongst the Gerbera to fill up the gaps
Place the Japanese Bamboo leaves at the side of the arrangement to compliment the green shades of the arrangement
Fold the Dracaena fragrans leaves and staple the sides together to stabilise it and insert them at the back of the arrangement. The yellow stripe on their leaves will give the overall arrangement vibrancy.
Fill up the remaining gaps in the arrangement with Murraya leaves
To add the finishing touch, weave the onion grass to create a design piece. Curve and insert this piece at one side of the arrangement to finish it.
Finally, spray the flowers with water to keep them fresh!
Module reflection: I really enjoyed this module as it teaches me useful skills and opens my mind up to more creative ways to use plants. I will definitely practise making floral arrangements in the future!
Gerbera - innocence/purity
Carnation - deep affection, love
Purple pompom - Wish for wellness
Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana' - AKA Iron leaf, perseverance, endurance, knowledge
The Gerberas have an ombre shade of yellow and pink, making it appear very welcoming and full of warmth. The pink carnations bring out the pink tones in the Gerberas, while the yellowish-brown pom pom at the top, beside the Gerbera, brings out the yellow tones of the Gerbera. The purple pom poms with different coloured centre adds detail to the arrangement. The purple statice compliments the purple pompoms and also adds a 'water drop' effect. The Rumohra and Murraya at the bottom flows out of the basket, making the arrangement look more balanced and natural. The Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana' leaves were placed at the back of the arrangement and its variegated leaf camouflages the stalks of the flowers and compliments the greenish centre of the White Phoenix flowers. The Dracaena godseffiana has yellow dots on the leaf that adds detail to the sides of the arrangement. Lastly, the onion grass was weaved and placed at the bottom left side of the arrangement to not only add detail to the arrangement, but to also showcase the application of the hand skills we learnt in floristry!
This arrangement represents strength, love and care. The mix of colours in this arrangement also makes it appear very lively. Hence, this arrangement can be used in upbeat events like Weddings, graduation, or any happy ceremonies!
