Plants/materials used:
Pompom (yellow)
Statice (Sea Lavenders)
Cordyline
Carnations
Polyscias
Rumohra
Ribbon
Process: Insert the carnations first, then the half-rolled up green Cordyline leaves. Add the yellow Pom Pom flowers, followed by the Rumohra leaves. Amongst the Carnations and Pom Pom flowers, insert the Statice flowers towards the outermost layer of the arrangement to create the 'opening' effect of the floral arrangement and also adds colour to the arrangement. Lastly, insert the Polyscia leaves into the areas on the floral sponge that was lacking plants, to give the arrangement a fuller appearance. To finish off the floral arrangement, i added a french ribbon to complete the arrangement.
Skills practised:
Rolling and stapling (for Cordyline leaves)
French Ribbon
Cutting of plant stems
Plant length measurements (rough measurements)
Spreading petals of flowers
Yellow pompom - (many meanings) neglected love/sorrow
Carnation - deep affection, love
The purple edged carnations add contrast to the bright yellow Pompoms. The purple statice compliments the purple edged carnations. It should be placed dipping outwards so that it creates a 'water droplet' effect that opens up the arrangement. The Rumohra leaves help to cover up the sponge and make the arrangement look more natural. The rolled up and stapled Cordyline leaves help to separate the purple and yellow flowers. Together, the green cordyline leaves and Rumohra balance out the colourful flowers to prevent the arrangement from appearing too overwhelming for the eye. The red ribbon makes me feel that this is a Chinese styles arrangement as red is a signature colour in Chinese culture.
Generally, yellow pompoms are used in arrangements for funerals or sad events. Hence, this flower arrangement can be used during more sorrowful events, to represent sadness for the loss of someone a person loved perhaps.
