Omuta Matsuya's 8-Note / 大牟田松屋の8音サイレン

Matsuya Department store in Omuta City purchased and installed an 8-note music siren in 1959, playing four times a day until deactivation in 1979. For whatever reason, the siren was never removed from the rooftop and remained there until the building was demolished in the late 2000s. These photos were taken in 2007 after the store had closed, and the building was vacant.
大牟田市の松屋百貨店は、1959年に8音階のメロディーサイレンを購入・設置し、1979年に運用を停止するまでの間、1日4回これを鳴らしていました。何らかの理由により、このサイレンが屋上から撤去されることはなく、2000年代後半に建物が解体されるその時まで、そのまま残されていました。これらの写真は、同店が閉店し、建物が空き家となっていた2007年に撮影されたものです。

The Miyazaki City Photo Archives happen to have a few photos of the Tachibana area from the time that the music siren was around. In fact, the Tachibana Department Store was one of the main subjects in these photos since it stood tall compared to the residential scenery surrounding it.
宮崎市写真資料館には、ミュージックサイレンが設置されていた当時の橘地区を写した写真がいくつか所蔵されています。実際、橘デパートは周囲の住宅街の風景に比べてひときわ目立っていたため、これらの写真の主な被写体の一つとなっていました。
