We are developing novel nanomechanical testing techniques to better probe the mechanical responses of various structural materials at the microstructural length scale. We have recently installed a KLA G200X Nanoindenter which allows us to perform advance nanoindentation-based tests, including dynamic testing (CSM), strain-rate jump tests, nanoindentation mapping, micro-specimen testing (cantilever, pillar, DCB), and non-ambient environment testing (high/low-T, electrochemical, irradiation). In addition, we are combining advanced microscopy techniques (3D-FIB tomography, HR-EBSD) with nanomechanical tests to quantify the mechanical deformations (fracture, plasticity) with microstructural insights
