Here are a few ideas:

1. Whole Group Instruction
Give the students the prompt on the board and work together to come up with a response
2. Small Group Work
Have the students work with one or two other people to come up with a response for a prompt
3. Individual Work/Student Journals
The students can choose a prompt and work on it silently and alone to submit to their teacher
