Students can create a portfolio to showcase their work using a variety of tools such as iPads, Chromebooks, and even Smart Phones. Students can access their portfolio at home, at school, or even on-the-go!
Teachers can view students' portfolios and provide feedback. This digital tool allows teachers to gather information on what their students understand and then use it to form instruction.
Family members are able to have a look inside the class through the use of Seesaw. Families also have the ability to comment on their child's work and leave words of encouragement.
This video shares testimonies from various grade level teachers. Seesaw allows both students and their teachers to post, view, and respond while they are at home, in meetings, or traveling.
Seesaw has become apart of many classrooms' daily routines. It promotes collaboration amongst students and their peers. It can be used for both individual and group assignments. Seesaw can be used in any content-area subject such as Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, as well as English Language Arts.
Teachers are able to share their ideas with other classrooms via Seesaw. The link above shares pages of activity ideas that can be used through the app. Topics include but are not limited to growth mindset, STEAM, Spanish, creative writing, and creating graphic organizers. Educators are able to browse by subject and grade level as well as keywords in the search engine provided. Seesaw has many multimodal aspects such as videos, pictures, and text.
Karchmer-Klein (2019) states that, "A fourth characteristic of digital text is that it is easily shareable and publishable on the Internet, the global computer network serving billions of users. This is beneficial to writers who want to write collaboratively or project their message to a large audience" (p. 188).
In fact, teachers report an increase in students’ motivation to write well when they have opportunities to revise their work based on peer feedback of online publications (Lapp, Shea, & Wolsey, 2010).
Seesaw allows students to feel a sense of responsibility, independence and pride over their work. They have the ability to be creative within the classroom and then share their growth with their peers, families, and their teachers.
