WHAT IS EDMODO?
Edmodo is a digital classroom tool that offers a range of benefits for students, teachers, and parents! This educational platform begins with the teacher creating a class page in order to share content, give assessments, communicate with others, boost written communication skills, and provide resources to students and their families. Once the teacher has created and set up the classroom page, members can join only by a secret classroom code given to students and their families. This website is an effective and quick way to communicate with the classroom community.

This technological tool allows teachers to create a digital classroom that fosters a rich, supportive community of learners. This tool offers a variety of resources, including but not limited to: discussion posts, literature circles, quizzes, pen pals, videos, writing and reading activities, grades, and resources. Because this tool is so user-friendly, the classroom community, parents, and teachers will quickly develop an understanding of how to use and benefit from this digital classroom management system.
This digital classroom has a number of benefits for students, including the ability to enhance the reading and writing of students. By implementing discussion posts and online communication between users, students improve their writing skills as they become authors through pen pal activities, peer editing, and other assignments. Additionally, students will enhance their reading skills as they read and comprehend the resources and materials offered on this digital classroom!
Because students can post assignments, start and reply to discussion posts, participate in literature circles, record videos, and even use resources with other students, this piece of technology helps to boost communication. This includes oral communication through self-recorded videos and partner work, as well as written communication through posts, literature circles, and other assignments. Additionally, not only does this tool build communication between students, but also with family!

COMMUNICATING AND COLLABORATING TO CREATE A POSITIVE WRITING ENVIRONMENT
With the many different tools Edmodo can offer, the teacher can ensure that students communicate with each other, collaborate on assignments, and work together to create their own masterpieces using the tools provided to them. According to the text, Best Practices in Writing Instruction, when creating a positive writing environment, it is crucial to "build a positive environment that fosters collaboration [and] create specific opportunities to develop and draft writing together." (Freidrich, 2019, p. 37, as cited in Graham, MacArthur, & Herbert, 2019). Additionally, research indicates that collaborative writing opportunities leads to writing enhancement (Freidrich, 2019, as cited in Graham, MacArthur, & Herbert, 2019). By implementing Edmodo into your classroom, all of this is possible! Students may communicate and collaborate with each other through assignments such as blogs, discussion posts, self-recorded videos, and much more.
USING EDMODO TO DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION FOR ALL LEARNERS
Because classrooms are filled with students that have different strengths and needs, especially with the push for general education inclusion, it is critical for classroom teachers to consider the wide range of abilities that students may have in the classroom. Edmodo is an excellent technological source that can be used to meet the needs of all types of learners in the classroom. Whether it be visual, auditory, or kinesthetic, or a blend of skills, Edmodo has the ability to adhere to each student's learning style needs. Being able to control each student's page enables the teacher to develop differentiated tasks and assignments based on student performance. For instance, the teacher might assign an extension activity or a higher-leveled text to students who are gifted. There are many proven benefits to using technology to differentiate instruction (Mahoney & Hall, 2017). For instance: "According to the Division for Early Childhood of the Council of Exceptional Children, young children with disabilities having access to technology within the general education classroom have shown improvements in the areas of quality of life, general understanding, academics, behavior, and overall developmental skills and abilities" (More and Travers, 2012, as cited in Mahoney & Hall, 2017).

Figure 8: Feedback
GIVING AND RECEIVING MEANINGFUL FEEDBACK ON WRITING
Through the many collaborative projects that may be implemented into an Edmodo digital classroom, students will experience giving and receiving feedback to peers. As stated in Best Practices of Writing Instruction, "Peer review is a reciprocal process, and students may learn as much from giving feedback as from receiving it" (MacArthur, 2019, p. 291, as cited in Graham, MacArthur, & Herbert, 2019). In addition, the teacher can set up Edmodo so that the students receive immediate feedback once an assignment is submitted, or the teacher may wish to type his or her own. Either way, the student receives feedback that the student may refer to in the future on the digital platform. While discussion posts and literature circles can be created for all of the students in the classroom to see, the teacher may also prefer to give the students individual feedback.
