In the extract below from 'The Little Nugget', the crooner (Buck MacGinnis), doesnot strictly follow the lyrics of this song. Instead of "Ev'ry time I come to town, The boys keep kicking my dawg aroun'", he sings "I don't care if he wears a crown, He can't keep kicking my dawg aroun'". We assume that when reaching Great Britain, Buck was aware that crowns are more commons than in America - at least in the shape of coronets on Coats of Arms.
He was lying back in a chair, with his feet on the side-table, and crooning slowly, in a melancholy voice, the following words:
'I don't care – if he wears – a crown,
He – can't – keep kicking my – dawg aroun'.
