The song 'We don't want to fight, but by Jingo if we do!' might have been written by its author specially with someone like Mervyn Potter in mind. Mervyn Potter was a man who, if you left him alone, would leave you alone. He was all for peace in our time. But anybody who supposed him lacking in pride and spirit was vastly mistaken.
