Slaughter Interdiction for Wild Horses
Slaughter Interdiction for Wild Horses
Preventing horses from moving from 'kill pen' livestock sales lots to slaughter trucks is well within reach. The BLM maintains an extensive WHBPS database. The details of each animal's microchip, freezemark, and buyer are easily accessed by most BLM employees.
If Animal Advocates in possession of freezemarks could only access the data - they could inform law enforcement locally of the violation of the AIP agreement. IF ONLY.
Well then there is a reason for FOIA. Results are starting to arrive.
Devoid of clarity, rife with obfuscation
In the late 1980s, roughly 350,000 American equines were funneled annually into the horse slaughter pipeline. Even the 1986 Kentucky Derby Ferdinand was slaughtered in Japan. Clearly no horse is safe from this predatory industry.
