Seniors

Welcome to Senior Year!

We know this is a busy and exciting time for all of you as you begin your final year at Wilmington High School. It is our hope that we can continue to work closely with you to help make this year a success. Whether you are starting the college application process, researching career opportunities, or exploring your options in the military, make sure to schedule an appointment with your counselor as early as possible so we can assist you with this leg of your journey.

Important tasks for senior year include:

  • Work hard to maintain your grades in all your classes. Most colleges will request to see at least 1st quarter grades from senior year and many will request grades through midyear.

  • Ask at least two teachers for letters of recommendation in support of your applications. Make sure to have your resume completed in Naviance so that your teachers can use it to assist in writing your recommendations.

  • Attend Open Houses and/or tours on college campuses. All students are allowed 2 excused absences for verified college visits during the school day.

  • Keep your Naviance college lists and deadlines up to date!

  • Register for the SAT/ACT if needed. Take the SAT Subject test/s if required by the college/s. Be sure your scores are sent to the colleges as soon as you finalize your list so your scores get to the colleges by the application deadline.

  • Complete your college essay. Ask a teacher or counselor to proof your essay for you!

  • Prepare and send applications (and fees) directly to the colleges.

  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, stay in contact with your counselor through out this process and be sure to let them know a MINIMUM of 10 school days prior to any deadlines you plan to apply for of your intentions to submit applications.

  • Check the Scholarship List in Naviance regularly and apply for any scholarships you are eligible for.

We also have over 40 representatives from the admissions offices of colleges throughout New England and the east coast who meet with our students each fall. Please refer to Naviance for the most current list and to sign up to attend. All meetings will take place in the school counseling office and you must obtain a pass from your counselor to attend. It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed during these meetings.
