Wedding Day Transportation

Picking and Reserving Your Day-of Transportation

Planning your day of transportation is one of the important and often over-looked tasks of planning the wedding. Remember, you don’t have just have to cover your transportation to the ceremony and reception, but you may also need to provide transportation for your wedding party and out of town guests as well. Here are some tips to help get your transportation needs sorted:

  1. Book your cars about six months out so that you can be assured that you will have the number of cars you need for your event. If you have a spring or early summer wedding you’ll be competing with graduations and formals and you’ll want to make sure you have everything you need! Vintage cars should be booked even further out as they tend to be more in demand.

  2. It’s polite to cover the costs of transportation for out of town guests if you have room for it in your budget, but you should definitely provide something for your wedding party, at least to the reception. If you don’t want them riding with you two, then get them their own car to take together! They’ll be thankful you did and it’s a nice way to give them an extra thank you for being there to support you both.

  3. Always make your actual reservation in person and take the time to look over the fleet before you put any money down. This gives you a chance to double-check the quality of the cars that will be working for you! Don’t be afraid to be a polite diva and ask for extras such as a specific champagne or an iPod connection in the car so you can listen to music. You might have to pay a little extra, but they should be able to meet your needs.

  4. Add 20-30 minutes of pad time to each and every trip, from hotel to ceremony to reception to hotel, and be prepared to pay for wait time. Though it may mean paying for the entire day, you’ll be happier knowing that your driver will be out there waiting for you when you’re ready to go!

  5. Don’t assume that you’ll be able to decorate your car. In fact, many places don’t allow it. You’ll need to talk with them to see what you are and are not allowed to do so that you don’t end up paying for damages!
