Flowers and Your Florist

Flowers and Your Florist

Choosing a florist is much like choosing any other wedding vendor. You want someone who can understand your vision, who wants to see their artwork round out that vision, and someone who has experience working with wedding flowers. You’ll need a bridal bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets, boutonnieres for the groom, groomsmen, ushers and fathers, corsages for the mothers and other important female relatives, as well as flowers for the ceremony and reception sites!

The biggest asset when approaching a florist is knowing what you want for your wedding. Bring your wedding binder filled with images, ideas and swatches and spend some time talking things over with your florist. Remember, if you don’t feel comfortable with a florist or you’re afraid they just don’t get your vision then don’t force yourself to use them. Find someone that you feel confident will provide the best floral landscape for your wedding at a price you can afford while still meeting your vision for your wedding

Keep in mind that certain aspects, such as seasons and colors, will affect your budget greatly. Don’t expect to get cheap flowers when you want sunflowers in December!

When considering wedding flowers and what you want, you shouldn’t limit your options to fresh flowers. Silk flowers, while somewhat expensive; present some benefits that real flowers don’t. Silk or fake flowers won’t wilt and never go out of season which means that you can definitely have hot house orchids for a winter wedding if you want. And while they may lack the bright, bold scents of real flowers, they will look as fresh and beautiful years down the road as they do the day of your wedding.

Talk with your florist and see what they recommend based on what you want. A good florist can recommend flowers based, not only on color and style, but also on meaning helping you build arrangements that will speak to you and your guests on multiple levels.
