It’s all too easy to be swept up in the planning and forget that this day is actually going to happen. When your wedding day arrives take a moment to just enjoy it. Don’t worry about vendors and guests, focus instead on the meaning of your wedding and that it means the start of a wonderful new life for you and your spouse. Here are some tips to help you relax and enjoy the day!
1. As tempting as it is to stay out all night before your wedding, don’t. Get good night’s sleep and go to bed at a reasonable hour. You’ll be glad you did.
2. Make sure you eat a good breakfast with lots of protein and complex carbs. You’ll probably be too excited and busy the rest of the day, so you’ll want to start the day out right to avoid headaches and irritability.
3. You’ll want to spend time chilling with your girlfriends so give yourself plenty of time to get ready. Plus, this will help you stay calm and relaxed, you won’t be rushing around trying to get everything done and worrying that you’ll be late.
4. Be smart! Wear a button down shirt when you get your hair and makeup done. Wearing a button down shirt eliminates the worry that you’ll mess up your hair or makeup pulling a t-shirt over your head!
5. The night before help your groom write down a list of everything he needs to do the day of the wedding, including a quick chat with his buddies about how they’re expected to behave during the ceremony and reception!
6. Make sure your shoes are comfortable. If there are any places where they bite, rub a little petroleum jelly into the tight places and give them a good stretch. Keep the petroleum jelly in your emergency kit so you can use it throughout the day. Remember to pack flats for your reception!
7. Don’t overdo the perfume and cologne! It can make you feel stuffy, nauseated and give headaches as well as attracting bugs!
8. Take a few candid selfies, but put your phone away otherwise. No one needs to call you that can’t leave a message. This is your day, turn your phone off.
9. Take a moment to relax and get loose before walking down the aisle. Remember that your wedding is a fun, joyful occasion!
10. Make sure you take some time to eat during the reception and ask your caterer to put some food in a box to-go for you and the groom! And remember to go light on the alcohol!
11. Ask your officiant to give you both a chance to pause and take the moment in. It’s your wedding; you’ll want to remember each and every detail!
12. Be the best bride you can be. Relax, have fun, keep your temper and remember that no one will remember mistakes or bad jokes or other errors that happen without comment but they will remember a bride that jumps off the deep end and ends up screaming at the florist for bringing the wrong flowers!
13. Make sure you take the time to thank everyone for coming. Give a toast and have a receiving line or visit each and every table to say thank you to your guests. Make sure you also spend a few wonderful moments together with your parents.
14. Schedule group photos for the reception where it’s easier to get large groups of people together!
15. Avoid the cake smash. You both will have more pictures to take and having cake on your face will smear makeup and ruin hair! Talk this over with your partner and make sure they understand that you want to skip this part of the cake cutting!
Relax and remember why you’re there. You’re there to celebrate a new beginning with your partner. It’s not about the wedding night, it’s not about the cake or the food or the flowers. It’s about sharing a beautiful moment with those closest to you and embarking on a new journey with your loved one.
