There’s a general stigma attached with being a bridesmaid, one that has at times been rightly deserved. Bridesmaids are thrilled to be asked to be a part of your wedding, but there is also an apprehension when faced with the thought of what you will choose as their dresses. Some brides fail to take into consideration the varying needs of each of their bridesmaids and choose dresses that are far from flattering for some or even all of their friends whether in style or in color. Don’t rush in to this decision. Be a good friend and think about each of the women in your bridal party individually and ask yourself what is more important to you. Are pictures with everyone in the same dress and same color more important than smiles of genuine happiness from comfortable bridesmaids? Can you find a dress that will flatter every girl and every body type in your bridal party? Spend some time shopping around and considering different ideas. It’s quite common and even appreciated when the bridal party has a little variety, but if that’s not for you then look at dresses and accessories that will flatter your bridesmaids and help them feel comfortable as they stand by your side.
Another issue that bridesmaids face is having to buy a dress that they’ll never wear again. Do your ladies a favor and pick something in a color and style that they’ll be able to wear again and again! Pick something in reasonable price range (between $100-300), including accessories. Make some notes in your bridal notebook about each bridesmaid, what you think they can afford and which dresses will look best on them. If you can, take a few of them to go shopping to see what they think of the dresses. If you have more than four, however, take an online approach. Email all of the bridesmaid’s links to the dresses you’re looking at and ask their opinions. Take note of them and see what you can come up with that will keep everyone, especially you, happy with what they’re wearing.
